Thread: Why does kishimoto make naruto so dumb

In most manga there are main characters who acts and sound stupid, and makes fools of themselves, but when its time to fight they have impressive amounts of power or skill to back it up. For example look at goku. In the manga he starts out as an illiterate naieve boy who dosent seem to know much of anything, but as the series progressed so did his skill and power, a little too much, mostly they all should've been powered down to some degree. Another example is Vash the Stampede, who comes off as an doofy idiot just like goku, and father knightroad from blood trinity. All of them have the same personality traits, all of them annoy me at times with their bumbling behavior and i like these guys. What seperates them from naruto is 1. Theyve won pretty much all of their fights. 2. They dont have to rely on any alien power or abilities they werent born with, every single time they've only used whatever god given abilities they were born with. 3. Knightroad, goku and Vash never went and disappeared for 2 years and came back with hardly anything to show for it. These characters have used every single arsenal at their disposal. naruto has a forbidden jutsu. He shouldve used that damn jutsu to bring sauskes mopey ass back the way hes been saying he would for like every issue since he left. I just would like to know why the creator didnt do a better job with the naruto charcter, he couldve made him a little smarter or more disciplined, even with kyuubi hes not that impressive. So what if hes had training with kashi and the hermit, can you honestly say that if kashi and the hermit had pulled every single one of the other ninjas aside and trained them for 3 years they wouldnt be more impressive than naruto? keep in mind the others were passing theyre tests and pulled off theyre jutsus without much trouble. Whereas naruto would always be lagging behind. My point is we can dislike an imaginary character as much as we like , but the real blame lies with the real life person who created naruto in the first place. I enjoy this manga very much. i just feel hes just been dragging this sauske thing out for too long,sometimes i think he has no idea where his own stories are going. Its a good manga i just want him to do naruto some justice and stop making him look like such joke sometimes. If Naruto wasnt the name of this manga i would never bet money on him being the next hokage.

I think Jiraya was teaching Naruto other things besides skills. Rememeber how Naruto got out of the genjutsu that Itachi cast on him? It was from help from Jiraya.

The main thing Naruto learned was to unleash the kyuubi energery whenever he wants. He also has "that jutsu" in his arsenal.

Naurto had a good reason to act stupid for such a long time, he grew up withoput his parents so in order to get attention he acted stupid. Even though it wasn't the attention he really wanted people were still paying attention to him in some way. And once that personailty is embeded it is hard to pull out, you only know to act that way.
And he always fell behind because it says the Kyuubi made it harder for him to control his normal chakara. That is why everyone spent so much time trying to teach him how to control it.
Even if it is a manga the characters are being portraied as humans at the same time. No one is perfect, there is always a flaw! ^^

To hell with the main character winning most of his fights. Too laaaame. Naruto is written as incredibly dumb because it brings a sense of balance. Shikamaru is a genius, yet appears to have a severe lack of stamina and jutsu arsenal.

BALANCE.

Then what would that make Sasuke? I don't see any balance in there.

Anyway, Naruto being stupid is supposed to the entire theme of the series. A failure, such as him, can grow up to become a powerful Hokage. Him being stupid shoud give hope to the people. I mean, Kishimoto found the dumbest, most retarded, loud-mouth, and chronicles his life so he can give him a purpose of evolving into a Yondaime clone.

True him winning all of his fights would be predictable. Its just that i would like to see him progress a little faster, i just dont think readers should have to go through another time skip to see some significant change in his power and abilities. Naruto is has potential, i know it sounds like im just dumping on him, but i like his character thats why i was a bit critical. I just would like him to get some clean wins, no interrupted fights , no one else helping , no dependence on the fox demon. It would just be nice to see him get a little more respect from his peers

ehhhmm..Naruto didn´t get out of the genjutsu alone(sakura slapped him lol)
@ rico25 you have a point there,but he didn´t show his jutsu because that has to be some kind of secret weapon thingie^^ (and goku is in fact an alien)
and i agree,Naruto is a little to dumb(no wonder there that much Gaysuke....errr....Sasuke fans)

Yes Naruto is dumb. We know that however the shonen genere demands that that same stupid idiot comes through in times of crisis.

Naruto gets a ton of respect from his peers now...even kakashi just praised him.

And right now...he's trying to create a jutsu that the 4th and even kakashi couldn't do...Mind you...he's doing it WITHOUT the kyuubi...

And Naruto isn't as dumb as he was in the beginning of the series. He's a ton more mature and effective now. I remember when this guy couldn't even throw a kunai straight and now its second nature to him. The 3 year difference did'nt neccesarily (spelin?) teach him NEW stuff...it just drastically improved what he could already do. Which IMO is just as important as learning new stuff.

Personality wise, he's still Naruto just a bit more mature and bringing him along in a mission is actually a GOOD idea now...not a BAD one as seen by his peers and the Kage. He further developed his rasengan into the Oodama Rasengan (used on fake itachi) and uses his clones more effectively. The 3 year difference wasn't really to show you Jounin Naruto all of a sudden. It was really to do the other characters some justice like Sakura and Hinata. It was the only way to develop em without you having to watch a training arc on each one of em, not to mention that he can now make naruto do something wise in the middle of a fight without everyone going WHERE DA HELL DID THAT COME FROM.

Be alone from birth and still try to grow while fitting in with folks who openly dont like you. Either you wear your emotions on your sleeve and cry or you keep it inside and smile. I'm glad Naruto smiles.
