Perhaps Gaara was mistranslanted possibly because the scanlator was convinced that Deidara was female?

Yeah, his voice was really deep, if he's a she, than Deidara obviously has some really serious hormonal balance problems.

Deidara has to be a guy. Remember when he was chocking Tobi with his legs? If it was a girl, Tobi would have had a full upskirt view. That behavior wouldn't be consistant with girl behavior in these types of manga.
