He didn't thought up of the idea, he just had a similiar idea which he worked on before he knew about HP.

About the elements dunno but as i remember in the first naruto movie or 2 (the naruto and snow princess (or smth like that). At the end naruto used rasengan and there was those crystals which were representing chakra and there were 5 colors and naruto had 5 colored rasengan. Or something like that. You totally messed up. It was the first movie and 7 colors.
