so kakashi either learned rasengan or he copied it with sharingan
im thinking he learned rasengan, and to complete the 4ths jutsu transformed it into chidori, and this all happened before he got the sharingan
I do also believe that he learned Rasengan before Chidori, because Kakashi pretty much implies that his reason for actually creating Chidori in the first place is because both he and Yondaime were unable to fuse their elemental chakra with Rasengan. You know what that means, you other guys? Like Talamere mentioned, Kakashi created Chidori before he got Sharingan, so he must have learned Rasengan the hard way. LET IT BE KNOWN!

I wouldn't call Chidori "completing" Yondaime's jutsu, because in order for Kakashi to create a technique which he could infuse with his own elemental chakra, he had to cut back on the complexity of the shape manipulation greatly, hence we have the original Chidori, a completely different technique. Sasuke seems to be pushing it to new limits though now with greater shape manipulation, so both he and Naruto are on the path to uberness.

The forum seems to be acting up. I think Kakashi learnt the Rasengan from the 4th because it's a lot easier to ask someone to teach you than try and sneak peeks on your own. And plus there isn't really any reason to not learn it from the 4th, since he is Kakashi's teacher after all.
Yeah, that's pretty much confirmed. Like we said, Kakashi almost straight-out said that he created Chidori because he was unable to infuse Rasengan with his elemental chakra.

I wonder why it was impossible for Kakashi to combine the two? Maybe it's impossible because it's easy to control chakra while it's in it's pure form for example Neji's Gentle Fist style and Kaiten and Rasengan, but once it's changed into something else like fire, lightning, etc. it's no longer "chakra" so you can't control it.
Well we've seen how hard shape manipulation can be (learning Rasengan), and we've seen how hard nature manipulation is (learning to use wind chakra), so one can only imagine that combining such high levels of the two into a technique simultaneously must be incredibly hard.

But Rasengan would be taking air and then compressing/spinning it constantly, and the longer you hold it the more chakra it needs and the harder it is to control because the power keeps on increasing instead of decreasing.
Exactly. Like Kakashi said, Rasengan is a technique performed by taking shape manipulation to the highest possible level. It made me feel all fuzzy inside reading that.
so what it's a ball of spinning chakra unless it gaines a completely different look with wind chakra it's not gonna be worth it
I'm thinking that when infused with wind chakra, it will be powerful enough to make something like a small hurricane in the immediate area, cutting things up all over the place. Atleast, I'd like it to be.
