I went to Public School and that never happened.

Anyway, as for the whole Naruto thing, he probably joined early than the others. Or the school are actually only one course that last for a short time if you're talented enough. Most kids join around age 10, but there are exceptions like Itachi, so maybe Naruto joined at a young age.

i doubt he joined earlier , the ninja school almost seems liek a work at your own pace thing.(well not really but you'll understand in a second)
They have classes that start from basic to advanced styles and teachings of course, but it seems that if you THINK you are good enough you can try to graduate early.
Like kakishi or itachi etc, i'm just thinking that the graduation test is an optional test you can take again, (but of course maybe it was only offereed to genius students or students that seemed to have special traits). But i still belive it was optional to take it earlier. I can't think of a test that is similar though, in the way that you can take it before the course is done.

its kinda funny because i made a thread about this a while ago pointing this out. but i also pointed out that lee was able to graduate without being able to do nin or genjutsu.

Kakashi graduated from the academy at five or six, I believe it said so in Kakashi Gaiden....

It would make sense for Naruto to have joined the school earlier than everyone else, despite age... seriously... it's not like he has any family-- so what is a little kid going to do?

I go to a public school in the U.S.... we only have make up days if you're absent... but... I usually thought that you're just out of luck if you're absent... Most people'd be too scared to be absent on a day with Finals...

Personally, I always thought that since chuunin exam was every 6 months, so was acedemy exam.
Also, I used to go to a Jap. school in Japan, and if you got below 80% on the finals, you got to repeat it a few times. So, naruto might be only 6 months older.

I thought itachi was famous for not only graduating at 7 but graduating in just one year

if that is the case....sakura could have been an academy brat for like 3 years sauske 2 years, and naruto like 4 or 5

the only problem with this is they seem to be the same age....if they all joined at different times but managed to graduate at the same age that would be a mighty coincidence no?

I don't think we can compare it to the schools and tests we went through.

I think you can graduate if you fullfill the requirements.

Just like the drivers license. You need to know the theoretical part. If you think you know all the answers you can probably take the test (and if the teacher thinks you can). So it's not like going to school, which requires several years.
Next there is the practical part. Like they needed to do a Bunshin in the exam or the henge jutsu before in class.

If you can do it and know all the theoretical stuff you can graduate. No need to wait several years, is there.
If you know all the shinbi teachings and guidelines and you have control over your chakra you graduate, if not....

Also. The Bunshin exam was the last requirement in the exam. After doing that all the others graduated.
We can assume they all passed the other test before that. Either it was in the same test (an overall test) or they passed them days, weeks or months before the last test.

Naruto passed the other test. Otherwise there wouldn't be a need to let him take the final exam.
He didn't graduate because he couldn't do a proper bunshin.

Do you think they would make him spend another year in school because he couldn't do a bunshin.
    No way.
If you fail you can probably take the test again shortly after you failed. Just like in driving school.

Sure, there are still some unknown things about how it works.

But i bet Kishi didn't screw up somethink like "oh naruto is actually 3 years older"
If you believe that, the only thing you can do is Harakiri, for doubting Kishi

At my schools, if you failed you failed. Now in university, if you fail, you die.

It's possible for Naruto to have joined the ninja academy at a super young age though. If the 4ths wish was for the village to see Naruto as a hero, what else is there to do but start working on it? It's not like his parents were taking him on trips...

In that case, I think ninja classes graduate more than once a year. I bet Naruto was just stuck on the last segment (having passed the rest of the course, the only thing he was incapable of doing was Kage Bunshin). So if he started a year earlier, and failed the test three times (Spring, Fall, Winter semesters) then he's right on time with Sasuke and Sakura.
