Lightning+Earth could make an Earthquake technique. Water+Wind could make a hurricane or tsunami i guess

I think Fire and Lightning would be obviously the most destructive but has no defensive abilities.

Well earthquakes involve the shifting of tectonic plates in the earth, and heat is a factor so I guess fire and earth would make more sense, in a kind of armageddon/volcano-ish kind of thing. I'd like to see a jutsu like that!

Is there really a point in water jutsu you think? We seen some really powerful water jutsu but they don't really have much destructive power because the water just brings you far away, and unless water is pressuring you it doesn't do much. I mean like in the anime water isn't very powerful and no one is afraid of getting hit by it unlike something like fire.

Probably because water can create ice as a shield or put out fires and the 3rd/4th (I don't remember, that old guy) created a wall out of earth as a shield. I wonder if certain elements are weak against others like in most games/anime?

Also don't get too hung up on the 5 chakra types as "elements." Remember, they're types of energy.

Instead of looking at rocks and trees, ice and snow, look at the effects of on the cards: crumble, cut, burn, wet, disintegrate. Water is fluid, flowing from one form into another. Since the water appears from nowhere, it seems that such energy flows from pure chakra and freezes into solid form making it ideal for summoning.

Wind is kinetic energy such as one needs to propel an attack through a tree or rock. It is also the ability to move chakra, separating it, moving it against itself, moving it into a circle, putting it into shapes. Its also tends to get caught up under its own momentum, blundering into obstacles headfirst, though sometimes breaking them down by sheer stubborn force.

Fire is thermal energy, ambient it is temperature, focused it is the spark which ignites the innate potential of wood, gunpowder, gasoline! Sasuke bottles up his feelings, compresses them, and vents in a form so intense it burns the air, creating FIRE! Chidori, though it is lightning and not fire, is still the compression of energy into an intense form and well within the bounds of the fire type. The eyes act as a focal point, compressing ambient light energy into a form that can be interpreted by the brain as sight! Taken a step further the eyes compress the information down into terms of chakra and seals, making mimicry a breeze. Furthermore, when used in reverse, it takes a small intense form of energy and magnifies it outward in a wide field of illusion, but only when the negative energy is exceptionally intense can such jutsu be used. Gunpowder is a firey force, but it is the intense chemical energy further contained in the small space of a gun barrel that makes it truly a deadly force, so fire is compressed energy.

Lightning is erratic energy, striking without warning, crumpling in all directions. There is good reason why it can also be considered light and shadow and void as well. Like Kakashi it is not always dependable yet it is very versatile, able to use the abilities of many types of chakra rather than intensified bursts of trace energy found in all ninjas reguardless of type. However the degree of success with any type is difficult to determine. Remember mimicry is not the same as mastery, and Kakashi is a genius.

Finally, there is earth energy, metabolic energy. I was wondering why earth would crumble the paper since paper was usually made of wood, and we saw wood was combination of earth and water. I thought it would build up the paper somehow but then I thought about what you would normally do with earth energy. Face it: rocks and earthenware are usually pretty solid, so in order to do any thing with them, you have to soften them somehow. Heat metal, add water to clay, grind rocks into concrete, etc. Once you break down the natural boundaries of something, you can push or pull it with your chakra if you have enough energy. Also a strong earth user can soften the plates down to the heat source to create mountain if they are careful.

Now lets look at some of the combos:

Earth + Water = Wood
Breakdown + Summon = Plant life.

Trees can be sculpted out of earth, but they won't be alive/real
Trees can be summon from somewhere else, but they won't "grow" out of nowhere.

Seeds can be summon and limitbreaks applied to make them sprout and become fully fledged trees near-instantly in a bloodline limit.

Water + Wind = Ice
Summon + Speed = Jumping out of mirrors

Haku moved at incredible speeds(wind) yet disappeared into a two dimensional object and was able to automatically project (summon) his (her) self from any of the mirrors instantly.

Maybe earth is like a "reinforcement" type just like in HxH, and can improve the natural properties of objects. It would make sense because it seems like a defensive ability but it could also be offensive.

I can't see how earth chakra on a dagger would work, but I could deal with earth chakra strengthening the blade itself.

No... Fire/Lightning is compression/erratic. Its like focusing wildcard energy. Burn/disintergrate would be fire/earth except its more like compression/metabolism.

Think of it this way: Choji's power is physical earth type since he disintegrates caloric energy and metabolises it into growth energy.

I believe the medical terms are anabolic and catabolic reaction, but I'm not sure which is breakdown and which is build up.

If Sakura were also earth type it would allow her better control of the metabolism that produces life energy and predispose her to certain branches of medical ninjutsu. I'm not saying summon, kinetic/cut, focus/fire, or wildcard energy don't also have their uses, but it makes sense that treatment of this "earthly coil" would fall under the realm of earth energy first.

As for the other members of Choji's cell, we're now dealing with a preponderance of mental energy rather than physical energy types, so things are a bit harder to explain. I'll pick this up later if anyone asks about it.

earth+lightning=shadow type.
