i do agree with you sherman, and i too think that maynards vocals on this album could've been a little better, but considering the theme to the album, i think the style of the music being played suits the vocals just fine. i mean, this album is not nearly as heavy as their previous three. so if you take that into consideration, it does make sense that he had to tone it down with his singing and minimize the screams.

oh yeah, a friend of mine (huge tool fanatic) told me that there's this theory going on how tool is supposed to release another disc with this album. if i remeber correctly, tool was signed to a 4 album deal with the Volcano label. 10,000 days was their last album with them. and on that album, the last song is tranlated to the number 23 (i think). tool had some difficulties releasing this cd with volcano which is why it apparently took so long. and if you check on amazon.com website, you will find that there is some deluxe edition 10,000 disc that is twice as much money as the regular release. apparently there will be a second disc released this 12 more songs on a completely different label. i'm not sure what the deluxe edition is gonna be, but i'm hoping that it will contain a second disc(even though it's highly unlikely).

Yeah I heard something about that second disc... but I have a feeling it might have been meant to counteract the leaking of the album, so people thought that what they were hearing wasn't the one that they would get if thety paid for it in stores.

I think those theories were more of a hope statement for the people (like me) who listened to some tracks of the leaked album and just couldn't believed those really bad songs were going to be in the true album....

they're not bad songs, and even though the songs aren't as heavy as the previous albums, and maynard tuned down his voice a notch, the cd still kicks ass. you just have to give it some time for it to grow on you. i've had albums that took me a few months before i really got into them. there are bands out there that i've listened to where i hated them for either the vocals or weirdness of the music itself. these same bands i now listen to frequently and some i consider to be at the top of their genre. so give it a chance, who knows, it might grow on you.

I like 10,000 Days a lot, though not quite as much as Lateralus. Vicarious and Right In Two are probably my favorite tracks.
