Sorry, emo to me is just obsessively overgrouping the music. And I really don't like it in the fashion sense because it's an even bigger joke to subgenre a midpoint between goth and punk in clothing styles. I mean we break everyone and everything down into as many groups as possible and we're just making more prejudices, it's pointlessly stupidity.

Yeah I did actually. I'm aware of what the term means and I just really don't care for further subgroupings of music/clothing/etc. You stated yourself

emo is by no news a new term. it's nothing you can change. you mentioned nothing about the music, but talked only about how you don't like categorizing music. that was no attack and certainly nothing to question your intelligence about. based on what you said there would be no reason for me to believe you'd read the thread or visited any of the links i've provided.

I got a question: is my chemical romance an emo band? I really like them.
And what about Panic! at the disco? Are they emo? Not because of the sound, but because of the name (lol)

    ..... *sigh*

    no, neither

and a band can't be emo because of its name. i certainly do hope you weren't being serious. if you were, please look over the other 3 pages of this thread.

No, I didn´t think it would could be an emo band just because of its name, but emo bands have always these strange names, so Panic! at the disco could fit. See? So do u know what these bands are? Or are they alternative = not definiteable?

edit: I like rites of spring!

Sorry force of habit being an AFI fan. The emo(slang) more than the actual music gets under my skin and I rant a little at the over use of the term and the constent tagging of bands that aren't. True the term has been around a while and I wasn't really reffering to time frame of the terms original use just that it is overused nowadays(often by people using, but not understanding the term) and has been creating confusion as of late in regards to music and fashion trends. I realise that my opinion could be seen as uneducated/unfair towards the term/genre in its proper use as well. Sorry for the missunderstanding ashxcore.

    oh, that's fine ^_^
and i absolutely positively agree with you! i've been known to go on crusades about the bastardization of the term vs. its true meaning...

but i thought by making this thread, i could help make the world a better place

btw chaka, thanks for the linkage. i mentioned it on the first page but never provided a hyperlink.
