I've got a problem. System of a Down has a monopoly of my mp3 list, and I'm going to work my way through it and cut songs. Hell, in my top 10 "bands" three of them are OSTs from anime. I need some serious recommendations of old stuff, and perhaps new that I've missed. I've listed by the most, with ties solved through alphabetical order not preference.
But before you make suggestions, here's a few guidelines.
I like all genres of music, but I have preferences that overrule whole genres. For example, the only country I like is Johnny Cash and Swollen Members fills out most of my hip-hop. I dislike pop of any culture, so it has to be brilliant for me to consider it.
Secondly, I am twenty so I have grown out of that "I hate myself" or "I hate everybody" phase, so please. No Greenday, no Blink 182, no Simple Plan, no punk rock. Listen to some NOFX if you want true punk, and I am discovering this band, so recommendations for this band would be awesome.
I already have "The Decline", "Thank God Its Monday", "San Francisco Fat", "Dinosaurs Will Die" and "Drugs are Good". The cover they did about killing babies and raping women (its hilarious, I swear)... The title of that would be awesome. "I fucked your mom, I really did... Killing babies, I wish I did." Lyrics are like that.
Thirdly, I have explored a variety of these bands already. I have already listened to all Metallica, Slayer, Rage Against the Machine, Bad Religion, System of a Down, Nightwish, Blind Guardian, Nine Inch Nails, Dropkick Murphys, Eminem, Slayer, the Offspring, and Mudmen. Suggestions for these bands will probably be useless, as I either already have them or listened and wasn't impressed with the rest of their work.
Here's a list of most, ignoring bands if they have less than seven entries in my playlist:
1. System of a Down (59)
2. Rage Against the Machine (17)
3. Naruto OSTs (16)
4. Strapping Young Lad (15)
5. Ghost in the Shell OSTs (14)
6. Nightwish (14)
7. Blind Guardian (13)
8. Cowboy Bebop OSTs (12)
9. Bad Religion (12)
10. Soil (12)
11. The Pillows (11)
12. Iron Maiden (10)
13. Dream Theater (9)
14. Project 86 (9)
15. Eminem (8 )
16. King's X (8 )
17. Metallica (8 )
18. Nine Inch Nails (8 )
19. The Offspring (8 )
20. Rhapsody (8 )
21. Skyclad (8 )
22. VNV Nation (8 )
23. Dropkick Murphys (7)
24. Mudmen (7)
25. Nirvana (7)
26. Slayer (7)
As you can see, the classics are missing. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Queen, the Beatles, et cetera, et cetera. Please, help me fill this. Nirvana is also lacking, so suggestions besides the obvious stuff would be awesome.
Looking at the list, I'm certain you can figure out my tastes and create appropriate suggestions. For those you do so, I owe you a thank in advance. I'll probably listen to people I know who have taste and/or I know to be quite intelligent over those who have shown to be otherwise.
I choose my songs based upon the meaning, purpose, and feeling evoked by listening. That's why I have so much System of a Down, they have an interesting sound and have highly interpretative lyrics. That's why OSTs are so high up on the list, as I remember the ideas presented and values defended during the series that the song took place with.
And for god's sake, please do not say a band and the whole album. Band and song, perhaps a few really good ones. If the whole album is really that good, it would be so easy to write the whole thing out to spread the goodness.
Write three or four, if your taste is amazing I'll beg you for more.![]()
