hmm, I'd say the pillows were more the Sonic Youth of japan. The operated on an Independent label.

The beatles of Japan would have been Group Sounds, or some artists like that.

But yes, i DO recommend the pillows as well. Very good music. I like em so much, I've almost got their entire discography.

Personally, if you're looking for something uplifting with a jazzy beat look no further than Jimmy Hendrix. Particularly "Axes Bold As Love"

I mostly listen to either classic rock or classical music. For me nothing beats listening to Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture while playing CoD.

Listen to some Mono, great Japanese instrumental rock band. You can check out there website here. I also recommend Explosions in the Sky.

Less yes. They're a bit too angsty-nu-metal, for me.

First-person-shooters and classical music is always a winning combination.

But back to the topic. I have a few bands that I don't see too much of, these days.
For some fun punk: X-Ray Spex, Hot Hot Heat
For a little lighter fare: The Shins, Rilo Kiley
For a little celtic rock: Flogging Molly
For some classic punk: The Ramones
For one good song: The Darkness - I believe in a thing called love
For those of who liked Disgaea: Tsunami Bomb (The song on Disgaea was perhaps the worst of theirs I've heard)
    For the experimentally inclined: Bjork

More good pands include The Caesars, The Stranglers, Modest Mouse, etc.

Man, did this get off topic. Responding to the first post, I recommend a little know group called Carbon Leaf. They are often compared to Dave Matthews Band, but I honestly don't see any similarity. The best way I could describe their sound is Irish Folk Rock. They seems to be a selective taste, so you may like them or you may not.

In response to the second topic which seems to have developed, Tool is a great group simply because there is no way to define them. No other group out there sounds like them, and certainly no other group has anything similar to their style. They seemlessly blend guitar, bass, vocals, and percussion into a whole other musical genre. Throw in Maynard's cryptic and complicated lyrics, Adam's deep and disturbing music videos, and their own cornucopia of rich and enjoyable artwork, and you end up with a whole artistic genre that is rich in both sound and content.

    Bottom Line: Tool rocks.

it means rythem and blues and used to be a way to describe soul and blues but now tends to be associated with newer music as a sort of more chilled hip hop
thats how i think of it anyway stuff like blackstreet

Sorry to seem judgemental but while The Ramones where a great band if you're looking for real classic punk The Clash of The Sex Pistols are just better overall. Also it always seemed to me that Tool was attempting to be a mix between Nirvana and Rage Against The Machine and not succeding at either of them. Not to say that I don't like Tool it's just that I feel both original bands were much better.
