I just listened to Paramore's album... Pretty ok. Nothing to make me flip out though.

@elefant: ??? whats that got to do with this thread?
*sigh* Regardless of whatever opinions you or I have of these two bands, they really aren't punk. They may be good 'pop-punk', for lack of a better term, but to use the same descriptor for them as you would bands like Dead Kennedys, Anti-Flag, Leftover Crack or whoever is somewhat ridiculous. It's like saying beat means the same as eat.

Anyway w.r.t the thread topic, it's no fucking competition. Avril Lavigne is one of the most vacuous wastes of carbon I've seen a music company produce to date. And 'Girlfriend'; Sweet. Baby. Optimusprime. This is actually the worst song I've ever heard. This isn't even hyperbole. It really is that bad.

Basically to lose to Avril Lavigne you'd probably have had to have raped abd brutally murdered my entire family, taken pictures of the act, some how drugged me and then had these pictures tattooed onto my body so I could never ever push the images out of my head. That being said, Paramore actually aren't too bad, being that the singer has good voice and in one video looks pretty cute. Therefore a glorious victory for Paramore.

okay-i 100% also agree about the avril lavigne part. girlfriend is one of the most annoying song ever and i struggle to see how people find it addictive and catchy or even how they consider her punk...
i'd rather listen to chalk scraping than that song
and i'll edit that...blink was an awesome pop-punk band XD

Well, it really depends on one's definition of "punk". If you define it as Sex Pistols punk then yea, blink-182 isn't "punk". But you have to understand, pop-punk basically grew from whatever was created in the 70's.

I'd tend to think of it as the sound when the term was originally applied. If it (d)evolved over time then the new thing is no longer given the same term as the old. To use your logic I could describe Scandinavian battle metal bands as Blues.

The difference between The Sex Pistols and Sum41 is not nearly as wide as lets say... Loius Armsrtrong and whatever. You're just being dramatic.

I didn't say it was - I was following that reasoning to it's conclusion. My point still stands though;

Sum 41 - In too deep

compared to

The Sex Pistols - Anarchy in the UK

Also on a side note, it's interesting to see that Sum 41 appear to have regressed back to their original style since Dave Bash left.

Of course the punk style and tone(ramones,sex pistols) would always be different from the one because of the boom of technology. So we can't really compare them to each other. I agree blink182 and sum41 rocks!!!They're like the new age of punk!
