Sufjan is pretty chill, but he wouldn't really fall under the umbrella of rock. He's pretty folksy, in an artsy indie way.

To many artificial bands spawning out the last years.

Good to hear that the Smashing Pumpkins are reunited

While I completely and utterly agree that Mastodon (I saw them a week or so ago *blissful sigh*) and LoG etc are excellent metal bands I doubt they're really what Jakko was after dude.

Clutch however; when I read the title these guys were the first to come to mind. Really is awesome. You can listen to a few of their songs here, http://www.myspace.com/clutch, I've seen them once and they were as good live as on their recorded stuff.

As for what other people have said, I'd second AiC, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, early RHCP (see Higher Ground for a good example, though I don't know whether you'd find most of their songs too palatable), Audioslave, Muse - personally I'd consider Knights of Cydonia to be the one decent song of Black Holes and Revelations (also this is a band you should sell your grandmother for to see em play live), Queens of the Stonage (Songs for the Deaf is a really superb album), and so on.

To be honest you should keep going through the old school stuff like AC/DC (I reckon TNT is the coolest), The Who, Led Zep, Hendrix, Joe Walsh, Stiltskin etc etc. Just because it's so awesome, and on the tiny off chance you haven't heard it, here's a song of particular sweetness; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcH9-As8BkU

Oh and Audioslave have split up. Cornell is too content with his solo stuff it would seem, and the other members have reunited with De la Rocha for ...Coachella ...or something festival in California.

But yeah as to the main point, yes you are indeed correct. I just don't get how most people who listen to fall out boy, panic at the disco, my chemical romance, the used, head automatica and the like don't realise how ridiculous it is.

Man, House of the Rising Sun has such strong sounding vocals....

How can the singer have such a bland expresionless face in the vid? Bit of a let down there...

Gah my two favorite current rock bands are on hiatus:
    System of a Down
    A Perfect Circle

    Other good bands are:
    Nonpoint
    Alexisonfire
    Pearl Jam
    Linkin Park

For real though, I think shit like Fall Out Boy and Panic!, actually make my balls smaller just by hearing them.

Hey, have you heard the title track? (you can search it on youtube). it's actually a pretty good song. I think people will be suprised in a good way when the album comes out. hell, it'll have to be decent as it's taken over a decade to write.

And yeah, in reply to the person who said I mentioned only old bands... The Rolling Stones and Iron Maiden still release albums, and the new albums they release are just as good, if not better, than their older stuff (I don't think I made that point clear earlier, my bad)
