I have to disagree with modern rock going stale.
look at the 3 gods of Metal.
-Sabbath still tours, and sound better than ever
-Judas Preist's latest album was amazing
-Iron Maiden (my favorite band of all time, hence the name) is doing better now than they were back in their prime \m/
hell, even the stones latest album (A bigger bang) was a great album, and they still throw a better show than anyone.
then you have new bands like Dragonforce who are creating generes for themselves.
I think the entire rock genere is comming back.
Try Radiohead, Dreamtheater, and maybe System of a down. They're good.

Still, sounds like I like your taste in music. And I got a few names from a different post which I don't know, so might have to check out. I haven't really heard many new bands lately.
I reckon Don't Look Back in Anger was the best thing Oasis did.
I love Fell on Black Days, so was loving listening to that for the first time in a while :)
What I've heard from the new Stones album wasn't actually that good.
Although I don't actually like John Mayer because he seems like a smarmy little prick with gay songs, I have to admit that he knows how to play guitar. :)
Yah, I meant blues. Blues guitar. Shermy, if you appreciate his guitar but not the songs, check out some music by the John Mayer Trio. It's him and these two other guys that just play straight-up, twenty minute, Floyd-worthy solos. It's not his mainstream stuff at all.
Yur, Tool is pretty beastly. Radiohead is a really incredible band, but they've kind of gotten lost in the experimentation. There have been a few good songs on their recent albums, but they're too electronicated to stand anywhere close to Pablo Honey or the Bends. I hear the new album they're working on is gonna sound a bit more like their old stuff, though, so I appreciate that and I'll hang in till it comes. The Stones have pretty much fallen to shit.
As far as hardcore stuff goes, I'm not a guge metal fan. Some old stuff is awesome, but more recent metal's a bit too screamy for me. It's prolly just the guitarist in me, but I really like Dragonforce and Coheed and Cambria. It really is beautiful orchestration, plus some incredible guitar playing.
Metal bands such as Slayer,Iron Maiden,Metallica and Megadeth are still living and kicking, but as for classic rock it has long died out.
I prefer all the "emo/pissy/pansy" shit these days prob. due to my age(14).
Not that use to other genres of rock.
rock has changed but i still like some of the slightly older punk and metal stuff. sum 41 is still pretty good and linkin park is still number 1 in my opinion. btw does n e 1 know whenthe new linkin park album is coming out. i heard it supposed to be soon...
There is talk of a Zeppelin reunion tour, but i doubt anything will come out of it.
Also, the looong delayed GNR album (chineese democracy) is finally being released this year (hopefully)
Velvet Revolver is also pretty good.
Dream Theater's new album will be awesome.
and punk is lame. it's to focused on the image and not enough on the music.
above I was reffering to new punk. lots of old school punk (such as the Misfits) is awesome.
^The Sex Pistols. The Ramones. The Clash. Good stuff.
Some "new" stuff that's pretty good are Kasabian, Velvet Revolver, The White Stripes, and System of a Down.
I agree. AIC still blows my mind and Nirvana is the greatest band from our generation.

@Jakko i've never heard Shinedown before, I liked the links you've posted. Thanks
No please no. I hope it isn't released... ever.
