I've got no problem with burning stuff - I've heard way more stuff that way than I would have otherwise - but if I like an album, I make sure to go out and buy it. It's a matter of paying the proper respects to the people who made the music available. Also, it feels good to have the real solid thing sitting there in your CD rack. I've got a huge collection of CDs, and I love it.
The good thing about burning stuff is that you get to sample a far wider variety of stuff, and it (hopefully) discourages record execs from putting a few good tracks on album, then filling the rest with shit, to spread the group's real talent over more albums. It's just a system that's open to abuse, sadly. It sucks that people do it, but that's human anture, I guess.
Also, I heard someone else say this once: with the burning thing, we miss out on this: Remember the days when you'd buy an album for a few songs you liked, and didn't like the rest? But you'd have the tape or CD and listen to it through a few times because it was palying and you couldn't be bothered skipping through it... and eventually you found that you actually really like more of their stuff? You miss out on that if you just selectively pick tracks, and that's a shame.
