anyone here listen to Norther? DEATH METAL!!!!!
the only song i have from them is the cover they did of Final Countdown by Europe. i haven't really gotten into them but i think they did a pretty decent job of the cover. i'll give them a try soon enough.
haha, i heard the children of bodom cover of the final countdown
but nah, i haven't heard of them. have you any links to their stuff?

the children of bodom cover of final countdown is actually by norther, for some reason someone renamed the file to make it seem like it's done by bodom. although the true cover is done by norther, meaning both covers are one and the same. it's just like the song hunger, which was apparently done by metallica and megadeath. it's the song that apparently metallica didn't have room to put on the album load and it didn't fit with the theme of the album. but really that song is done by some unknown band (atleast unknown to me). so technically ashxcore, you've already heard norther![]()
haha, well since i thought it was children of bodom, i decided to ignore a lot of warnings and get one of their albums
too bad it was norther...or maybe good? whatever, i liked the cover very much! why do you just say decent?

i guess it's because i've only listened to it a few times. usually i have to listen to something quite a few times before it really grows on me. there are some bands that i listen to now and consider to be at the top of my list but when i first heard them they didn't appeal to me all that much.
could you name some of those bands?Originally Posted by swat

well, first i'll say that my taste in metal was very narrow. i say metal because this is the only genre of music that has taken me a while to get used to and here's why. all i used to listen to were well known bands like slayer, metallica and iron maiden. the main reason behind this was because i never liked hearing vocals where there was screaming and growling involved. that was the biggest thing for me to get into. after a few months of listening to bands such as Death, Carcass, Dimmu Borgir, In Flames, Edguy, Kamelot, Blind Gaurdian, and Iced Earth just to name a few (which i all got from a friend of mine who's a huge metal head) i got hooked. and i also began to understand the lyrics as well. i also realized that without the vocals being the way they are, the music wouldn't sound as good. i mean, Dimmu Borgir just wouldn't sound right if they had the same vocals as say Dream Theatre. But currently, to finally answer your question, some of my favourites out there right now are Death, In Flames, Carcass, Morbid Angel, Arch Enemy, Opeth and maybe a few more that i can't really choose from.
hah, i'm the complete opposite. i wouldn't say metal is my favorite genre at all, but i'm a fan of it (i listen to most subgenres of rock, aside from metal i mostly listen to indie, nu-emo, and pop-punk). i normally hate clean vocals in my metal, (i loooove death growls and grunts and screams are great too) and i don't really like anything progressive. that said, despite countless recommendations, i've never really heard dream theater (i'll make my way to checking them out one day). oh yes, and i don't care at all for superfluous solo-ing.
