Thread: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

alright, it's a guilty pleasure but it's one of those "even if i didn't enjoy the book too much AND i don't think they're my favorite actors, I still GOT to see the movie on opening night."

So, I caught a midnight showing of this movie.

First off, it's completely different from the previous movies imo. Idk, I feel that the movie is loosely based of the book. The movie is basically punch line after punch line for 95% of the movie and then suddenly pulls a 360-mood swing adjustment to a serious undertone about 10 minutes before dumbledoor dies.

There's not much of Voldemort's past or character development mentioned in the movie (which I feel was a KEY point of the sixth book, but then again it's been a long time since I've read the book.)

What I did like though:

(1) The MANY akward relationship scenes were sooooooooooooooo hilarious. Alright, Ginny, you really shouldn't have gotten THAT much screen time, but it was REALLY FUNNY watching you... especially that KISS. HA!!!!!

(2) Dumbledore gets his due credit. that part is very well done.

(3) you actually feel sorry for malfroy. he's a great actor.

(4) Music, transitions, scenery (even though it felt like Hogwarts was once again a different school), and camera angles are beautifully directed.

I don't see what's so great about Harry Potter. Nor the point of having a midnight showing of it.

I will be honest. i saw it tonight. and i thought it was great. In my opinion. the awkward relationship moments ARE character development. The sixth book actually had a lot more of it. I thought it was done really well, though surprising that u said ginny had TOO much screen time when they took out all of harry and ginny dating.

The scenes were all done well, you got the right feel to each one, ESPECIALLY with malfoy, who got increasingly less screen time as each movie was showed. You could practically feel his despair it was so good.

Any scene with death eaters was freaking awesome. So much implied madness. it made the movie mature.

One thing to say about the movie. my one nick pick, okay. so they are teenagers, so they have hormones. but damnit all the girls in hogwarts are freaking whores!!!!! god what whorish behavior.

I've been wanting to watch the movie.
Quite annoyed they keep delaying its release.

Half-Blood Prince sucked arse... The only redeeming part of the movie was when Dumbledore Started Fire bending XD. They totally screwed up the ending, would have wanted a darker and more action packed ending.

I kinda liked it... The only thing that pissed me off was that Harry wasn't paralysed whem Dumbledore died... Yeah, it makes Snape's threason bigger, but it made Harry look like a coward too... That's how I see it...

I actually did like the movie...it was a whole less darker than I expected though, the overall feel of it. A lot more jokes than I expected.

That said, it was funny. Entertaining. The visuals were really stunning, but of course that can't make a good film by itself. I thought there was character development, and for once we see Malfoy being more than just the annoying guy that Harry gets back at in the end. They didn't make any major changes (except blowing up the Burrow, of course) but they did do the movie professionally, I though. It's not JUST an adaptation, you know what I mean? It's a movie in its own right, by itself. The movie series has been progressing, in that respect. And I must say I really really liked the 5th movie, how they made the longest, draggiest of the books into a short, really good movie. This doesn't exactly top Order of the Phoenix but it's really close, and I liked it.

I prefer the books than the movie. Thanks for J.K Rowling for writing the books...
