    Default Deadliest Warrior

Anyone watching this show? I freaking love it although some of the fights are total bullshit. Pirate vs Knight was awesome if anyones seen it.

I'd like to die with the songs I love stuck in my head. I hope to make the most of these hollow bones we become.
I raise a toast to the the souls that sang all along. I've been gathering friends to just to make some sounds,
before the ship goes down, I've been making amends by making the rounds before the whole world ends

The show is pure bullshit. The historical facts are all wrong, the tactics employed are utterly retarded and the so-called experts seem to consist of a bunch of fanboys for their respective favourites. Not to mention that every goddamn test is rigged beyond belief, and even when the tests clearly show something that doesn't agree with the script, they simply ignore reality in favour of their own preconceptions.

Incidentally, Pirate vs. Knight made me rage. Hard. Not as hard as Samurai vs. Viking did though. After that episode I basically stopped watching this tripe.

Are you kidding? Since I have a bit of an axe to grind I'm going to use the Samurai vs. Viking episode as an example of how much bullshit this series spews out.

First of all, why in the world are all weapon tests done on unarmoured targets? In any combat situation your enemy will be wearing armour, making the oh-so-glorious cutting power against unarmoured targets meaningless. In fact they did test the Katana against ringmail and it did jack shit, only to completely forget their own test afterwards. Furthermore their selection of weapons was bullshit. Why didn't the Viking use a bow despite it being a common weapon? Hell, the word "bow" in old norse is actually synonymous to "warrior", which should emphasize how respected archery was.

And why do they match up a japanese greatclub against the shield? In fact scratch that, why do they measure arms used for entirely different purposes against each other? The Naginata versus the Longsword? The Katana versus the Daneaxe? It's completely absurd.

And for that matter, why is the simple fact that the shield is used in combination with other weapons completely forgotten? Competent use of the shield and spear (one of the most common combinations used by Vikings) was never demonstrated, or even the proper use of shield and sword or shield and axe for that matter.

Even if we forget those inaccuracies, why is the fact that it is pretty much physically impossible to get around a shield with a light single-edged weapon ignored? As soon as the Samurai draws his Katana, the Viking only has to use the longsword and shield, then use simple back-hand strikes, and the Samurai is completely fucked. He can't get around the shield, and if he tries to cut it his blade will get stuck in the shield itself, making a disarming move completely trivial.

And finally, if you're going to use a shield in the show, you should use a historical shield, not some wooden bullshit. For how shields really were made and their real effectiveness, see this.

Basically every tactic that would have been used in real life is ignored. I suspect that this is because the so-called "experts" are simply glorified fanboys who know next to nothing about old norse society, religion, culture or battle tactics. The Samurai fanboys were even worse, in addition to being arrogant jackasses.

And this exact same thing continues in every episode I've seen, ranging from the almost tolerable to the utterly retarded. I mean, come on, Knight vs. Pirate? Who the hell could doubt that the guy with the gun will win against the guy with the sword?

So in final conclusion the show is completely historically inaccurate in addition to being plain stupid. Therefore I deem it utter bullshit from beginning to the end.

Hey, if you wanna see a bunch of fanboys brag, bullshit and butcher history for 45 minutes it's your call.

I'd actually watch the show to see people wail on pig carcasses with swords and axes, but the smarmy bullshit ends up annoying me too much, and if a show that includes hacking shit up with flashy weapons manages to annoy me of all people, something is seriously wrong.

So I prefer not to watch. Odin knows that I nerdrage about far too much already.

Ooh, my friends got me into this for the season finale.

Definitely liked learning about the history, and the weapons themselves - and yes, loved the demonstrations. That would have made this a very entertaining show. The matchups really didn't feel necessary, other than to ask the time-honoured question of "who would win" that fanboys know so well. However, guessing which weapon would "win" in the one-on-one tests of efficiency was quite fun, since we weren't considering using them against each other.

I only saw two episodes: the William Wallace vs... the Zulu (sorry, but I didn't pay attention to how to spell his name) one, and the Taliban vs. IRA. It was in the last episode that I realised how silly the actual testing was. I'm probably nitpicking here, but the Taliban were complete idiots. Who runs into a bus after the enemy, gets himself locked in, and stays pounding at the door until the bomb next to it explodes? Honestly. It was three-on-one by then, too. I'm not sure how that outcome came up, let alone become the one we were shown.

So until the ending, it was an interesting show... probably because it didn't actually pit the weapons against each other in battle until that point. Before, it felt much more like just a question of effectiveness for the individual weapons.

Do they still have the rampant fanboyism and the faux-tough guy bickering in the later episodes? I might consider giving this show another shot if it involves less smarmy assholes.
