Thread: Confirmed: Keanu Reeves as Spike in Cowboy Bebop

Rumours have been floating around about this for ages. Finally it's confirmed.

20th Century Fox is bringing the Japanese anime TV series Cowboy Bebop to the big screen, with Keanu Reeves attached to star as a bounty hunter traveling through space in 2071, confirms The Hollywood Reporter.

Reeves would play Spike Spiegel, a bounty hunter and former member of a crime syndicate. Spiegel, along with Jet Black, a fellow bounty hunter and former cop, are the two pilots of the spaceship Bebop.

Here's The good part.

Sunrise president Kenji Uchida, the TV series' director of animation, Shinichiro Watanabe, and series writer Keiko Nobumoto will serve as associate producers. Series producer Masahiko Minami will serve as production consultant.

Now I don't particularly hate Keanu Reeves, but he really isn't suited for Spike Spiegel. Firstly, he's too old(45). Secondly he's too damn emotionless. Spike atleast cracks a smile most of the time.

But sadly, the producer Erwin Stoff just happens to be his manager. <sigh>

Samuel L Jackson would make a fine Jet. xD

I dont think age is the problem (Brad Pitt as a teenager in Benjamin Button), the problem is his voice. Spike is goofy and impulsive, its not that Keanu is emotionless he just does the sullen introvert a little too good. Hope this turns out well. Imagine Scarlett Johansson or Diora Baird as Faye... I wonder who could play Edward. Come to think of it Keanu would make a pretty good Vicious.

Physical-wise, I'd say Keanu looks to be a decent Spike. But can he act the part? To this I say fuuuuuuuuuucking hope so. They also better get Yoko Kanno and the Seatbelts to do the movie soundtrack. Someone's going to get killed if they don't keep the jazz! D:<

What for? Japan isn't exactly the world center of jazz. There are plenty of American jazz bands that'd probably put out a better soundtrack(since they'd actually have english lyrics instead of being instrumental).

And Sam Jackson is too old, too small for Jet. How about Michael Clarke Duncan?

I should watch the anime first,before watching the movie xD
