    Default LOST [Season 5]

So the show's 5th season is set to premier on the 21st with 2 episodes. I made this thread a little early so we could get rolling with some discussion on pretty much whatever we want.

If you haven't seen the promo, here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mX7md0HoR8E
Also, there is a series of videos by Sl-lost on different themes in prep for season 5: http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=...in&view=videos

Well, is a big fan of the show, so seeing how other people interpretate the events from season 1-4 could be very interesting. Cant wait till they kick of the new episodes.

^Well, two thing I recently realized when watching season 4 and the promo is:
    1) Division seems to be an increasingly important theme to LOST. The Others seem to be divided into groups of those who betrayed DHARMA and a lesser known group of island loyalists and 'hostiles'. The freighter crew was divided into the groups recruited by Abaddon and Widmore. Then there are our 815ers who are divided between the real world and the island.
    2) The majority of the group recruited by Abaddon fits the profile of DHARMA's research concentration extremely well (which were meteorology, psychology, parapsychology, electromagnetism, cryptozoology, and utopian social engineering). We have an anthropologist to cover the last 2 fields of study, Faraday covering EM and time travel, and Miles' ability to communicate with 'ghosts' fitting parapsychology.

Now I'm starting to worry if season 5 will live up to season 4's quality. Time travel is known to create plot holes and degrade story-telling.
etufo: HS is most likely going to die sooner or later. Who will kill the cool character killer?

Popo: well, obviously going by that logic, HS will have to kill himself...

I haven't finished season 4 yet so its good that there is a season 5.

I hope Mr. Eko makes a comeback.

The first 2 eps sucked pretty hard. The actor who plays Daniel Faraday is a total suspense-killer. We could tell from the body size that he was the workman in the opening scene and his indirectness to Sawyer near the start of the ep was equally annoying.

Hurley proves his impressive acumen as usual when he turns himself in for Sayid's kills and his moment with Ana Lucia was disappointing after all the hype on seeing ghosts in the 2nd ep. I had such high hopes for Hurley's 'hallucinations' amounting to more, but whatever.

I did notice some interesting wording Ben used in the first episode when talking to Jack though. He said that the 06 would never find out what happened to those who were on the island (when talking about Locke), so that supports the theory that the 06's return would bring about the return of the island to its original location and time before the island moved. That's also supported by the outtakes to the Orchid video (youtube it) where we presumably see how Pierre Chang loses his left arm. People are already theorizing that Miles is also the child in that vid, though I'm not quite convinced.

I also can't wait to see younger Richard, as promised in the 1st ep. Also, I don't really know what to make of Desmond's exceptionalness to time issues. I wasn't sure if Faraday meant he was exceptional because he was potentially the only one who had made contact with a constant till then or whether Desmond was innately immune to some time issue, since both are partially supported.

Locke's storage situation also poses a unique issue. We know from Eko's episode with Charlotte Malkin that she said "Let John Locke Go" when she was revived, so it will be interesting to see if that event ties in with Locke's likely revival.

Also, there's the issue of Ms. Hawking. Is Jill supposed to be a younger version of her and is she Daniel's mother? Also, was the place she was working in some sort of Dharma station in the outside world?

And apparently we see that both Chang and Hawking believe in god, so apparently LOST is likely a deistic world now.

Wow at Charles Witmore. The episode was quite boring till that surprise came up.

Agreed. The ep was more preparatory for future eps than for present ones.

I'm curious of this unidentified blond English woman that Faraday keeps staring at on the island. Also, I wonder why the Others at this time seem to be British combatants fighting the US military for the island. Also, is the H-bomb what later becomes the Dharma station that Daniel and Charlotte deactivated before the time-skipping?

Faraday's lack of recognition at Oxford is also suspicious, considering we've seen him instructing students the time Desmond came to him for help there. Also, it's quite weird that Daniel told Desmond to go to Oxford if his mom was in L.A.

Desmond & Penny's choice of name for their child is slightly ironic since the child was named after Charlie Pace but now has the maiden name Widmore.

Also, Richard's role among the Others has become clearer. Darlton told us that Richard was like the Panchan Lama, who selected the next leader of the island while the leader chose Richard's replacement, but the fact that Richard is immortal seems to defeat the possibility that his position is replacable.

Sorry Ura, haven't seen the previous seasons in awhile, so I can't really answer some of your questions. The story is getting even more complex now, and I'm starting to wonder if I can keep up only watching the latest episodes. I just remembered Faraday and Charlotte deactivating something in season 4 thanks to you, so I can't exactly say I'm a whiz, just a fan of the series.

I'm starting to miss the flashbacks/flash-forwards. I can see why the writers decided not to use them (yet?), but to me, it's one the reasons why Lost was interesting to begin with. Island and real world switching is starting to make the story/entertainment a little inconsistent.

Also, Faraday is getting WAY too much screen time.

^Yeah, the plot is a lot less organized without them. Unfortunately, I don't see how it will change in the next few episodes as they frantically try to advance the plot in every aspect. Though, I know from spoilers that by episode 6, they start having character-centric episodes again.

Don't worry about the lack of detail. I'm surprised this thread isn't really popular here considering that there was an old LOST thread here.
