^ I saw Ben's reappearance after Locke's revival coming since Locke was killed simply because it's very LOSTish drama. I don't buy that Ben will manipulate the new crew against Locke simply because the new crew couldn't have come on the island with the 0ceanic 6 and Caeser and Ilana and I don't think they'll play an important role in the future plot considering the spoilers.

I was disappointed by the lack of substance in the convo with Walt, but the dream revelation was interesting. I wonder if his dreams allow him to actually travel to the island considering his appearances to Shannon and Locke when he wasn't supposed to be there. Also, Walt seems to know more than he's letting on.

Also, I suspect that Ilana is related to Ana Lucia somehow.

Btw, appparently the LOST production team has been doing some episode swapping for presentation. This ep was supposed to air last week, 316 was supposed to air this week, and Lafleur next week.

My new favourite Sawyer episode. Sawyer and Juliet sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G! This is going to be awkward between Jack, Kate, Sawyer, and Juliet. Good episode.
etufo: HS is most likely going to die sooner or later. Who will kill the cool character killer?

Popo: well, obviously going by that logic, HS will have to kill himself...

As much as I hate the idea of a love polygon, this situation is much better than having a love triangle with Kate, Sawyer, and Jack again. Kate was always manipulative and indecisive regarding Sawyer while he was a lovestruck puppy before, so it's nice to know that Kate's off-island 'indiscretions wouldn't pwn him when she came back. Though, Sawyer's most impressive change was his final coming into being the leader of the LeftBehinders after the flashforward. It's clear that he's mellowed out and seems to have finally matured into a balanced person and leader (something that can't be said for our prior top contenders, Jack and John). Though the fact that he lied to Juliet and had such a reaction to seeing the old crew is worrisome.

The statue was the highlight of the episode for me. At first glance I thought it was Claire's back (lol) but after looking at the picture again I think I'm going to side with the theory that it's Anubis or an incarnation of him. There were subtle references to Anubis in other parts of the episode- saying Richard was wearing "eyeliner", Paul's ankh necklace that Amy took (there were two ankhs in the statues hands too).

Also, the history of the island supports it. Both the Flame hatch and the Temple used Egyptian heiroglyphs that translated into "Underworld" and "Resurrection". And then there's the fact that dogs seem to be important to the Lost mythology, as Jacob's cabin has a picture of a hovering dog, and Vincent seems to be special. Anubis was considered a guardian to the underworld who helped guide dead souls to the afterlife. Also, greek depiction of Anubis associated him with dogs (Egyptians with jackals) and he has been portrayed as an anthromorphic mix of the two before. Anyways, there's more link-ups than I can be bothered to write, but even the wiki page has a few gems that relate to LOST really well.

Also, who do you think Amy's baby is? Two theories I've heard are Caeser and Jacob.

Probably Caesar. Why do people think it could be Jacob? Oh I just remembered, its not really normal for babies to born on the island.

Ura, do you think since the first episode of Lost, they were already in the alternate universe? What I mean is do you think the Oceanic crew already tampered with time creating a loop I guess.

^On the birthing on the island thing, I think Sawyer 's musing that 'maybe whatever made that happen hasn't happened yet' was proven by Amy's birth.

A lot of LOST fans (and I) now suspect that the island became inhospitable to birthing after the cryptic 'incident' that Pierre Chang cited in the Dharma Flame Station video. Speaking of Chang, did you notice his conspicuous absence from the episode? Also, whatever happened to Gerald and Karen DeGroot? All of these people are technically supposed to be the admin of the Dharma Initiative, yet Horace Goodspeed is called the fearless leader of the DI in this episode....

As for Jacob, he is a possible child because Horace built the cabin Jacob lives in and Horace said he was building it for himself and his wife as a getaway from the DI.

On the time loop- I think it was planned since the first season, but not in the first episode. The first episode brings up the smoke monster, which is still cryptic enough to potentially be the biggest twist to the story (the producers said they would deal with Smokey till the last episode). I think the time loop idea came into existence after the producers decided to introduce the DHARMA initiative and the hatches, and the justification I have for that claim is that this episode finally explains why there were outtakes in the DI videos- the losties took them out when they traveled to the past so that they would behave as they did and keep the events that occurred from changing. Also, I don't think the Oceanic crew were responsible for creating a time loop. If anything, it would be Desmond who did so through letting the hatch almost explode and generate a lot of electromagnetic energy.

Edit: Back to Amy's baby. I just want to point out that this episode reminded me a lot of Ben's prior efforts such as lying to the Others that he was born on the island and putting special efforts to conceive on the island by recruiting Juliet. In Ben's flashback ep he said that he was one of the last people who was born on the island still around.

Edit 2: Oh, 2 of the next few episodes are supposed to be Ben-centric during Dharma times.

They're probably saving Chang for a Miles centric episode. Maybe those DI admins will arrive by submarine or something later on.

I must have missed it when Horace said he's building a cabin.

^I realized that my timescale for those admin was wrong. Apparently the year in 5x08 was like 1974 or 1978, but the DI began setting up since the 1950's with the Flame Hatch (as we saw in 5x02) with the building of the Flame station. We saw in 5x01 that Chang was with the DI then to help build the hatches and make their videos.

I would be tempted to say that Chang is already dead, but I've already seen a spoiler pic of Miles and Chang in a Dharma van, so I think you're right about the Miles ep. The DeGroots would have been around during Chang's move to the island too, so they may or may not be alive.

    Here's the Horace/John scene:

With the whole Anubis possibility solidified, I thought of another thing concerning the island- the conflict between the Island's natives and Dharma can be seen further as a conflict between the gods Anubis and Apollo. Many of the Dharma hatches are named after various themes of Apollo (Flame, Arrow, Swan, Hydra) and the sickness fits Apollo's plague too (not to mention Apollo bars...). The support I have for the conflict right now is one of Charlotte's incoherent comments while dying:" I know more about Carthage than Hannibal himself."

Carthage was historically a site that both Greco-Roman parties and African-Arabic forces fought over. So that ties in well with the theory. Additionally, modern-day Carthage is in Tunisia, the site of the 'portal' to the outside world.

Moreover, the statue itself suggests that the island was influenced by both the Egyptians and the Greek. The foot of the statue was in a Greek sandal (when we saw it at the end of season 2) and I just read this theory suggesting that the statue was built using rocks from Tunisia.

@etufo-Considering you're the only other one who seems to follow the thread, do you think I should keep my theories out of it? I tend to write a lot here as it's the only place I write down my obsessed observations of the show.

I change my mind, I now think the baby is Jacob after seeing that clip.

Go ahead, I like to read your theories.

I actually watched Lost while it aired for once with my family. They were sort of annoyed that 6/8 of my predictions on the scenes ended up mostly right That's not normally the case but this was an incredibly predictable episode.

I liked Sawyer's pwning of Jack but I think it will come back to bite him in the ass next ep when Sayid isn't released. Next ep is apparently a Sayid-centric one and is called "He's Our You."

I'm looking forward to the John Locke/conscious Ben interaction, but I'm not sure we'll see the Ajira group any time soon.

    SPOILERS:
Here's some details for the upcoming eps (titles & centrics):

    510- "He's Our You", Sayid-centric
    511- "Whatever Happened, Happened", Kate-centric
    512- "Dead is Dead" , Ben-centric???
513- "Some like it Hoth", Miles-centric???
514- "The Variable", Daniel or Widmore-centric???
    515- "Follow the Leader"
    516/517 (finale)- "The Incident"

Ben is going to get a centric in either 512 or 513. The casting call for 512 describes someone that sounds like a younger Widmore, so I think Ben will get that ep.
