Thread: 2008 vs 2009

So, arguably, the biggest film of 2008 is out and stomping the shit out of Spideman 3 (yay!!!). But seven previews before that it kinda crossed my mind that maybe 2009 might hold some bigger surprises. Lets look back (and forward) and think about whether 2009 could possibly top 2008, especially considering Marvel and DC don't have anything planned for 2009, can the other studios make it worth our while?

Man, 2009 looks like they have absolutely no idea what to do (not as if they have great ideas now), and just decided to make more cartoons, games and old tv series into movies.

Iron Man --> Epic
WALL-E --> Epic
Sex and the City --> Best movie spinoff ever.
HellBoy 2: The Golden Army --> Could've been better.
The Incredible Hulk --> Failed.
Wanted --> Not bad.
Speed Racer --> <3<3<3
Tropic Thunder --> Looks cool

Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen --> Michael Bay better not be directing this.

Astro Boy --> WHY?

Gears of War --> Wait, I thought this was a war game?
Metal Gear Solid --> 2009: Year of the Game Movies. Where's Halo?
ThunderCats --> Also year of the 90s Cartoon Remakes
Dragonball --> NO

Okay... 2008 wins. There are a ton of movies I'd go and see in 2009, but this year has been pretty impressive. Somehow, I doubt a bunch of remakes of favourite childhood cartoons and badass video games is going to top Iron Man, Dark Knight, and the most original thing we'll be seeing for a long time: Wall-E. Then again, maybe they will - but there's always Wall-E, the best movie of the year (that I've seen).

Comic biz has been making super hero movies for a while now and since Spider-Man, X-men was a huge success everyone followed in making more. Comic companies need more money, they've been raising prices constantly but loosing lots of fans. Video game companies see the success that comic book movies have made and want a piece of that. No surprise really since some have been in the making for years now.

I don't see how I'd be able to compare the two just yet since 09 hasn't even started. I'll wait til 09 ends until I can actually decide.

Sorry, you have it the other way around. Video games, make more money than video game movies. The Movie Studios want to cash in, on the money video games make.

Your 2009 list looks weak. The only thing interesting on that list is the sequel to Transformers. The rest, I could care less about.

Sorry,but still. It's the movie studios that want to make video game money. I think GTA beat the Spider-Man 3 in gross.

Oh dear, hopefully James Cameron doesn't fk up Battle Angel Alita. I have heard that it'll be a CGI, oh well...
