Ok for all you nerds and eggheads and guys with connections.

I'm working on my own novel and script for a movie. What are the chances that I could end up making a movie that'd be seen in theatres? There's a lot of stupid crap making it to the big screen nowadays like that movie where those two faggots get married.

So what's the odds that I can make my own script and have it be in theatres. Like what are the steps to go about it and how many years would it take for my idea to be on the big screen? Anybody know about this kinda thing?

^I don't think you have a chance unless you go to college, or actually have training in the area. I think the best chance you would have is to start out making independent films, or find a talented independent films crew to make it for you. Then if it's successful, maybe you'd get into the business. Another thing you could do is start out publishing the novel. I don't have any connections, but my only advice is for you is to make something strange and original. There's too much formula in movies these days.

Well my idea is original but I don't know where to start. I don't even have a clue where those people are or how much they'd pay me or how much I'd be involved in making sure it comes out the way I pictured it. What I'm thinking about is something controvorsial and mature.

Look at that napoleon dynamite guy. He's making millions now, but it started out as an Indie.

Drive down to Hollywood with a hundred copies of your script, give one to every director you can find, and write them threatening letters until they accept it.

But yeah, pretty much anyone can write a script. If you can somehow come into contact with someone who has influence in the movie world, get them to read your script, and get them to LIKE it-- to say, 'wow, this is original and really good'-- then you just have to hand it over to them and let them take care of it.

Or get it done independantly. The most important first step either way is to find someone with influence. Who can fund your project, find you the crew you need, and get the film made. That's what comes first.

Well, after writing the actual SCRIPT, that is.

Thanks for the tip, gus. UGH! I imagined it would be insanely difficult but now it seems even more difficult than I thought.

Maybe contact your local college's film program and ask them for contacts to directors or people who can help you.

^He's not in college, but that would be a great place to start.

im sorta in the same boat, but im gonna start with novels and if its successful companies would be more open toward a big screen adaptation.
