One thing that doesn't make sense is the manga prequal. For those that don't know about it, it is about Clover attack Japan and killing loads of people like the film. The thing is wouldn't Rob have known about Japan getting destroyed and not head over there and all that jazz, as it is not meantioned at all within the film at all. It would appear on the news world wide, as come on it is a monster attacking a country.
If you see the movie you'll noitce the clues, and there have been alot of "secret" promotionel pictures out etc. Like seeing the monster under water attacking some kind of oil platform. Or whatever it was...(off-shire drilling facility)

But as for it being a satalite we have no idea. At the very end of the movie, when the tape returns to its original recordings you'll see (Rob?) filming out towards the water for 10 secs, if you look closely in the BG you'll see something fall into the water,. (comming way up from the sky) the date of that tape is the same date as when the monster appears.
But there have been some talk about a sequel, though I heard he will drop the hand held cam totally since it was just something he wanted to try with this movie.
I think there was a total of 2-5 pics. Only got two of them left. =/
Edit: Also, you get alot of info by watching the dvd, like the monster being a baby etc.
^ Reminds of Bioshock...
After I saw the movie I googled the monster and found this:
Nothing special, but if there will be a sequel, I watch it...
I think (think) that pic was fan made. Made outta rumors, teaser trailer etc. So the fans had a better understanding how the monster would look etc.
But it could also be a original drawing from when they were in pre-production.
But the monster in the sequel should be the same, since at the very end of the movie. someone says "Help me" That could indicate that the same monster is still alive. That someone is still in need of help. Also, dunno if this is true, never tested it myself, but if you reverse that "help me" (Which is distorted by the way) You would end up with a "its still alive"
I watched Cloverfield, thought it was BS. The film had such a hype too...
Found this old thread and I liked Cloverfield and most of my family was dumbfounded and said it was a waste of time at the same time... suspicious :D
So the Clover monster is a Kraken that was disturbed from its sleep by a satelite knocking into it..? I think eco-terroists cause more harm than regular terroists (28 Days/Weeks Later films for a back up :D) but I hated the ending due to the fact that the director resorted to killing off the whole cast.
Theres no proof the entire cast died. Was there? I don't remember. I thought the ending left the two of their fates ambiguous?
