    Default Q and A (Adachi)

So Adachi has the first chapter of a new monthly series in addition to the weekly Cross Game out.

Um. Well, the fanservice, what there is of it, is pretty good -- Kyu's right about sexy athletic bodies. But otherwise, I can see one potentially interesting way this can go, but I'm not thrilled with what we've got so far.

To me it seems like a cross between Itsumo Misora and Katsu. Which doesn't exactly fill me with hope, since Adachi generally has a poor track record with supernatural / sci-fi series, but well... we'll see. I wonder what sport Yuho's doing? Is it just athletics (i.e. running), or is that training for something else?

Anyway, +1 for character design (for Adachi, anyway). Haven't seen a female lead character with a ponytail yet except in some of the one-shots. Usually his long-haired stereotypes have unbound hair (Minami, Miyuki, Hikari, Natane, Katsuki, Ichiyo), or the ponytail girl is a supporting character (eg. Miho from H2, Miyako from Itsumo Misora).

Since it's Adachi, I'll read it anyway, but I do think he's starting to lose his touch a little...

I'll probably be reading it. What exactly is it about?

I almost mentioned the ponytail -- which looks good on her, yes.

@ mystic: I was trying to avoid spoilers in my description. Chapter 1 is mostly setup, but I'm not sure I can summarize it adequately -- you'd be better off reading it yourself. Manga Downloads has a ddl.

Read first chapter, it wasn't bad enough for me to not continue.

Hopefully adachi will make it interesting.

Hmm. Chapter 2 doesn't take things very far. Still giving this one a chance, though.

(I have to say, that bath fanservice from chapter one is one of the best bits of fanservice not just from Adachi but ever. I'm still thinking about that image with a smile on my face. Adachi has learned how to draw muscular well, even better than in Rough -- cf. Koh's poses for Akane.)

Oh come on, Adachi -- the Punch figurines were bad enough, but don't go smearing your substandard romcom all over Wakaba's grave.

(OTOH, I did giggle at "For story purposes.")

The fanservice is still top-notch, tho', I'll give you that.

Somehow, Q & A is just not doing it for me. Maybe it's the childishness of the ghost, or the lack of dramatic challenge in the whole situation, or maybe it's just a slow starter. In any case, it's a far cry from the brilliance shown in Cross Game.

I'm not yet giving up on it, but I'm not at all impressed with anything but Adachi's ability to draw attractive athletic female bodies. What little hint of actual, yanno, story progression arrived very late, lasted a chapter and a half before wandering off into the fuzzy corners of plotting a couple chapters ago.

I wish his energy was more focused on Cross Game. We've got 11 weeks of anime to go, which means either 5 or 15 chapters, and 5 isn't enough to do the story justice.
