    Default Historiē

How come there seem to be no thread about this excellent manga ?

It's a manga about Eumenes, (future) secretary of Alexander the great, by the mangaka who wrote Parasite !

    More info here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historie
I have been reading it there for a lot of time now (it isn't updated regularly) : http://www.onemanga.com/Historie/

I hope you will enjoy it too (if you haven't already !)

PS : who would have guessed "this" was a stirrup ?? Damn, I can't wait to see him ride his horse !

As something of an ancient history buff, I've been reading it for a while and loving it. The mangaka does his research -- it gets the ancient world better than most historical manga. (Only Emma, that I know of, gets it quite as right -- even Vinland Saga, which nails Vikings in general does a couple pretty big historical fails in the Iceland flashbacks.) Not only that, it's pretty darn entertaining to boot.

I'm finding that I love historical fiction manga too. Vinland saga, this manga, and Cesare have quickly become some of my favorite reads (quickly because I hadn't even touched this genre till last year).

@pseu- Did Alexander actually have some distinctive marking on his body like he does in this manga, or is that just emphatic fiction?

^your actually the first person I saw that is also reading Cesare. Its really a good manga too ^^

I like Historie as well. Too bad the Eumenes is too much of a bookworm and he wouldn't focus studying swords. There is good coming out of it. He was able to become a great tactician. I like how he devised that trap in the village. I was seriously impressed on how they crushed their opponents so easily.

I tried Historie but didn't like it. The author's drawing has become absolutely appalling. Look at this for God's sake!

I don't know if he happens to be going through a bout of Parkinson's disease or something, but even in the first volumes of the manga his art had regressed to wore than it was 10 years ago when he drew Parasyte.

What I read of the story was very dull, then again I only perceviered for a volume so perhaps it's the same case as The World Is Mine. I doubt it though. All in all I found it very disappointing.

I think I've read the first vol or or, of historie. Even though I havent read as much, it does seem interesting. I just need to pull myself together and read some more >_>

    @Ura/Vince
    Is Cesare really that good?

I noticed that one too, it really stuck out! Previous chapters were actually well drawn and inked, especially early on. And then comes half a chapter of rough sketches! I figured maybe the mangaka was pulling a stylistic change to go along with Eumene's next story arc. Weird. Maybe his assistants all quit or something.

Anyways if you read this far, you're probably more interested in the story than the art.

well if you don't find Historie interesting. You might not like Cesare. Theres even less action and more dialogue there.

I'm pretty darn sure the difference in style is because the earlier chapters were scanned from tankobon volumes, after being touched up, and the recent ones are magazine scans done on a tight deadline, where the backgrounds get done last if at all.

Even in this example I don't find the art too horrible (it doesn't prevent me from enjoying this manga at all)..... It's rougher, but as Pseudorandom said it might be because the scanlators started scanning the magazines instead of the volumes...

Don't know about Cesare, I'll give it a try

edit : Spaniards are so much cooler than Frenchies in this manga
    It's a nice manga anyway
