Title help for a really old anime
I can remember watching exactly one anime in the time my family lived in Japan (I preferred tokusatsu shows, especially if they had giant robots, and the daily sumo wrestling) -- and from it, only one scene. I'm hoping someone here knows enough about really old anime to help me identify it.
The scene is short: a monkey boy writes something (kanji) with a brush on a pillar or vertical plank, and then somehow is being held in a giant hand as the head of a large and angry Buddha-figure looms over him. Scarily -- it was still fueling nightmares years later. This is almost certainly the scene from Journey to the West chapter 7 where Buddha captures the Monkey King, or was inspired by it.
What show(s) could this be from, that it was broadcast in the early 1970s in a city outside Tokyo*? Were there any JtoW animes current at the time?
* ETA: Sorry about being vague, but I don't remember where we were when I saw it. Either Nagoya or Sendai probably, as Kobe is unlikely for various reasons.
