Default The Avatar ; The last Airbender

So I just binged watch the entire three seasons of this. It was well to say, very good! Alot funnier than most anime, or any other cartoon I have ever watched. I gotta say, this has got to be the finest anime that NA has ever made.

And the weirdest thing is this was made for Nick, so it was directed more towards younger kids. I love three things about this series. One it brings a whole new world to life, even if it's not as mature as it could be, but that adds to its values, originality. Two I love the action anmation of this, it was dazzling. And they use actual martial arts. I recognized some of Tai Chi moves mixed with alot of everything, including Shaolin and Baguazhang and much more. Though I haven't seen any of the drunken fighting style, but this is pg-13 ish.

The last thing I liked about this anime is that it grows. I can notice vast difference of it's art and style as it moved towards each new season, getting better and better. Love that. ;D

I recommend this for everyone, and anybody. Did anyone else watch this, what do you think?

was great, but the ending was too rushed, felt there should have been another season at least.

...I'm not really sure whether this should be tossed over to the TV section, not really being an anime, or not.

On-topic: Digi wants to watch this series because she's too amused at the stupidity of some fans. So the series itself is worth it?

IMO: Its an american cartoon show. Not anime. Was good though. Heavily inspired by asian works.

Cue "Is Avatar anime or not" debate.

Let's not cue it -- because really, it doesn't matter now does it. What matters is, Is it any good?

After ripping off ideas from Princess Mononoke and several other animes, getting inspiration from real world martial arts, and having been intended for kids but appealing to not-so-kiddies...

    HELL YEAH ITS GOOD

    weak ending, though

Hadn't heard of the Mononoke rip-offs. What's the inspiration there?

I liked the show too. If you want to get a good idea of what kind of viewers this show attracts, just note the main posters in the 3rd book thread- me, irecinius, Steal, stained_black, and Newbie. It can be comparable to an anime (though the nonobscene standard of Nick is apparent throughout) and it's mildly similar to Naruto in that it integrates a lot of actual history with shonen themes.

@Digi- I like this more than KHR (though I've only gone through like the first 3 volumes of the KHR manga so far).

Here's a good pitch for it from the 3rd book thead:

Not to mention duck-turtles and other ingenious concoctions.

For example... At the end of Book 1, Aang was used as a vessel for the wrath of the Ocean spirit. This was taken from the Night Walker form of the Deer God from Princess Mononoke.

Avatar creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino confirmed a particular anime influence in a magazine interview:

The best anime balances great action sequences with humor and emotion, something we try to do on Avatar. We love all the films of Hayao Miyazaki, especially Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke. Both movies deal with spirituality and the environment in an entertaining way. Also, there's a lot of great animation."
