Thread: Azumanga Daioh: Manga vs Anime

I´ve just finished two volume of the Azumanga Daioh manga and am uncertain, which version is better...
The anime seems to be more "off one's trolley" (hope leo.org is right) than the manga version, but I like both.
As I usually prefer manga over anime, the adaption seems to be very good, but I would like to know what others think.

Did somebody notice that in the first chapters Mihama Chiyo´s haircut wasn´t as simplistic drawn as it was later?

I'd say they can't be compared, the manga was a 4koma, so it had its limitations.

I said can't compare, for similar reasons. The animators did a very good job of capturing the spirit of short snippets of 4koma, by doing 5-minute episodes. On the plus side, Osaka is even more hillarious with a voice. On the minus side, Chiyo-chan is actively annoying with a high, squeaky voice.

They're hard to compare (so I'll try not to), but if I recall correctly the anime had a lot of short and loosely related skits at the beginning of the season, similar in feel to a series of 4-koma strips. Maybe they jumped around a little more because they were introducing the characters. I think after the first few episodes the skits started to flow together a little better, which I much preferred. Or maybe because by then I was just more familiar with the characters?

Then towards the end things got really weird. And yes Chiyo was kinda annoying. I didn't appreciate the ending song either (the singer sounds like a wailing cat). But I really liked Osaka's voice too!

Oh, whooops.
I wanted to vote for the manga, I thought the 4-koma made it really interesting and funny.
