    Default Kimi ni Todoke/Reaching You

So I was checking out the just-announced Kodansha Manga Award winners and came across this one: Kimi ni Todoke, scanned by Dragon Voice/Entropy as Reaching You. I'll be darned if it isn't a shoujo flip of Angel Densetsu -- instead of a demon protagonist she's a dead ringer for Sadako from The Ring movies, and instead of fights there's more-or-less standard high school relationship dramas. But, seriously, it's the same thing. Check it out.

(BTW, Moyashimon won for general aka seinen. Ha!)

Looks pretty cool actually (I like Sadako-chan ._.), will check it out after first volume is scanned.

edit: nevermind, apparently there's a "chapter 0" and this along with the other three chapters comprises the entirety of the first volume. Downloading.

Yeah, the chapter 0 looks like the initial one-shot that then expanded into a series. I don't know why they didn't make that chapter 1.

First impressions: This manga is so blatantly Angel Densetsou rip-off it isn't even funny (but the girl's cute, by the way). Actually, the drawings on the cover are misleading, Kawako isn't as kawaii in the manga itself; I bloody hate the SD form of drawing in manga (see Perfect Girl Evolution). The dialogue's overly sappy, but I haven't been reading much shojo lately so I don't know whether this is typical girly fare or not.

More to come later, after I've read enough MANLY MAN stuff to slog through chapters 2 and 3.

edit: honestly, I can't see anything special about this manga. It's just...shoujo drama mixed with uplifting images and random bad art. Dropping it.

As shoujo goes it's ... middling. Which is to say, the sexism and dialog isn't bad enough to make me scream, but it's nowhere as engrossing as, say, Fruits Basket or as funny as Lovely Complex or High School Debut. The pacing's a little wonky -- she's becoming "popular" a bit too fast than makes sense.
