    Default Beach Stars

So I decided to get back into reading manga and randomly picked Beach Stars because... I like the beach. Anyway for a sports manga (beach volleyball) its kinda cool, easy to follow, and it is a sport I like... Discuss.

I lol @ real beach volleyball player coaching the team.

Heh. I also randomly picked Beach Stars to read about a week or so ago. While the artwork is quite clean and it has a fair dose of shounen fanservice (girls playing beach volleyball, what do you expect?), I... dunno. It's definitely not as strong as some of the other sports stories out there. Kinda forgettable.

I think the trouble is that the storytelling is kind of loose and sloppy, not really focused as much as it needs to be in order to give the reader a thrilling ride through the world of beach volleyball. Or maybe I'm just spoilt by reading too many shounen series. Iruka may be a nice girl, but I don't find myself getting emotionally involved with her as much as some of the lead characters in other manga. There's nothing to really drive the reader forward through the story. No mystery, no sense of adventure, no real conflict, no desperate need, not even a 'coolness factor'... just some girls who wanna have fun. And the girls' characters are sort of shallow and bland, too.

Definitely B-rated shounen sports series (at least in my opinion). But what do the rest think?

Manga Genre Focus: Romance, Comedy, Slice-of-life. Primarily shounen, then seinen and shoujo.

Though I'm not a big follower of sport mangas, I like the drawing and the pace of Beach Stars.
The main protagonist is really adorable

What Steal really means to say, is that he needed more ecchi in his blood. :P That said, its not a bad series... not exactly new or imaginative, but fun.

Hmm. I kinda agree with Dizzy here. Fun, but not brill -- about the same level as Cross Over.

Though if Iruka is going to get serious about this, she needs to start wearing a top with more support, fanservice be damned.

I just get the feeling this will be leading up to some great stuff. Its a little above average right now but I got this "This could be as good as Prince of Tennis" feeling.

I've started reading this manga few days ago, and I've got to say that it's very good. I think that somebody may have some difficulties to follow the story among all that fan service

Anyway, since I've been playing volleyball since I was 6 years old, I find this very interesting.... well about Iruka's jumping power we have to remember that this is a manga

What, are you saying it's not realistic?

    *gasp!*

well, till now, compared to other sport series, I'd say it's rather realistic. At least here the ball doesn't explode or something...

I started reading it, and I think this is a really nice series. It has good direction. Right when i finished the last chapter I nearly had a heart attack, ha.

On a side note, it takes them two months to release a new chapter?
