    Default True Tears Anime

I have no choice... I HAVE to talk about this. The production quality of the first three episodes are amazing... both visuals, animation and sound. I think PG Works have really managed to achieve a production quality equal to KyoAni's works, and yet it's all so much subtler and gentler than - let's say, Haruhi or FMP Fumoffu. Did you notice how sometimes the frame freezes into an art-like painting for a second or two? It's a wonderful technique when you remember that it's named after a ren'ai game and that Shinichiro's an artist.

And the directing and scriptwriting is awesome as well. There's so little things said, and it's such a gentle pace compared to some of the other romantic dramas out there, but it just draws you in. For those who have yet to watch it, please do. This is the sort of series that grows on you more and more. Don't expect a big first impression... but rather a slow, gradual falling-in-love. Which is also sort of what the entire series looks like it's going to be like. You already sort of know each of the characters' feelings (except perhaps Noe), and yet it's that constant tension between what they say and what they feel that keeps you on the edge. After watching episode 3 today I was going "Oh NOOO!!"

The strange thing about True Tears is that because everything is so gentle and subdued, you don't get the highs and lows of emotion you find in... say, Kimi ga Nozomu Eien or even Kanon. Yet the drama is equally deep. It's just that it's muted, subtle... never melodramatic in the way the other two titles can be sometimes. Noe may be as crazy as Haruhi is, but it's not played for laughs. Everything is quiet. Which is why I love this series. I think it can be watched over and over again (provided this level of quality is maintained throughout the rest of the 13 episodes). If I get the chance, I'm definitely going to buy this when it comes out.

Is anyone else watching True Tears this season? Can you help me explain why this series is so beautiful? Oh, and what do you think is the dynamic behind Shinichiro, his mother, and Hiromi? Do you think it's jealousy of her son's affections, or is it something more?

The post-production and computer enhancements are above average. The animation is static. I don't care much for the dialogue. You can see it's trying to distinguish itself from every other romantic visual novel adaption out there with some of the friend's lines in the first episode, but it's an empty display really.
If I was feeling generous I'd call it "calming"

I have to say this is one of the few love romances that I can get into. Usually, they are so typical and shallow. But this series has alot of emotions and really good character development. Must keep watch ~~

What can I say... Thanks for recomindation! Before you started this thread this was among anime of the new season that I didn't consider watching. But after seeing your post i gave it a try, and now it seems that it has become one of very few series's of a genre that I'm interested in.

I like how it is drawn. I like athmosphere. I like its' pace. I like characters so far. I find it interesting how parents are inclueded in the story, not just playing roles of dolls in the background, but as active participaters of a conflict, with huge potential of influencing it's development (especially mother). It's hard to guess about her motives, it can be anything, for example she didn't get along with her husband's dead friend and hece can't welcome that persons daughter. It may be anything.

You were right when said that she has similarities with Haruhi. However, she is much less of a dominant character, and her wierdness seem to have much darker roots then Haruhi's.

After reading your post and the wiki description, I'm interested. But I'll probably wait for the series to end before watching everything in one go.

I was quite impressed (just watched the three episodes released), but I don't like Hiromi. The other characters are likeable, but Hiromi is too... too... Arrogant. Too bad she seems to be the main love interest. I'll have to rely on character development for that part.

Mmmm... I don't think that it is arrogance. I think her attitude towards main character and his family is the result of her decision (whatever it is based on) to not get too close to him - it was mentioned in one of her inner monologues (sorry, i can't give you the citation due to lack of time). So it will probably change as the characetr developement progresses.

It's a good series so far. Reminds me a bit of 5cm per second when you talk about the still scenes. I mainly like it since it has a more natural feel to things, like the way you point it out it's quiet. Which is probably the main reason why I'm still watching this. Sure bad things happen, but they don't overly exaggerate things which is a great quality since most of them do. I'll be keeping up with this every once in a while.

As for the thing with his mother, I'm willing to bet that either his dad had an affair with Hiromi's mother or Shinichiro's mother used to like Hiromi's dad. I'm not too interested in his mother hating Hiromi or the reason why personally.
