    Default Gunslinger Girl -Il Teatrino-

I watched the first episode and here are my thoughts on it. Firstly I didn't like it because of so many changes compared to the first season (which I adore) - animation, voice actors, even style - pretty much everything changed. Some characters, like Jose, are even hard to recognize, Henrietta didn't look at all like herself from the first season, and not only that, her behaviour changed complitely as well, sometimes she seemed like a totally different person. But as I watched it further and further I began to like it more and more. Both action and normal life scenes are excellent, much of it because of BGM, which is deffinitely above average level.

So I plan to continue watching. Although it doesn't resemble the first season one bit and its' style is so different it almost seem like a absolutely independent series, the new season has it's own charm which I came to like.

one of the things I liked most about season 1 was oddly enough; the sound effects. which were done perfectly, as well as the music. I have to watch this later on though, really looking forward to it.

Wow, they had less money on this one huh?

But budget cut or not, the parts where Triela opens and throws the sewer cover and loads her gun is smooth and animated well or that part where Rico drives that punk dow to Kick Ass Boulevard, which leaves hope that the future hand-to-hand and fire armed combat scenes in this season will be animated well.

And to the future complainers saying that the girls sound happier, that´s actually on pair with the manga, alot of the tension of the first volumes (That the first season emphasized a little too much in my opinion) is lifted when the Fratello teams have more experience in the field. Rico is a pretty much a constant smile and Henrietta is bolder with her relationship with Jose.

It´s not as good as the legendary first episode if the first season but this episode *delivered* for GsG fans. I was satisfied but there´s certainly room for improvement.

My main beefs are as follow:

    - A painstakingly obvious inferior director, most of the realism factor is gone (Less goreThat panel showing that one of the terrorists has a gun) and a great part of dialogue for the most part is just "anime-ish" which is something GsG was happily devoid of. That bothers me to no end.

Although this was also noticeable in the filler episodes of the first season albeit to a much lesser degree, my hope is that since they will go manga only from now on, this will improve alot in this aspect.

    - One of the things that somewhat bothered me in the first season was the overall look of the girls, don´t get me wrong, it´s not that they looked bad but they looked so different from their manga counterparts that it took me awhile to get used to them. However, they were spot on with the handlers, all of them looked perfect from visuals to voice acting.

This time, despite having to get used to the new look of the girls (Which i think prefer, i´m not sure), the handlers are horribly, horribly conceived. They look like fucking boy band members, especially after hearing those voices. Jesus.

Except Jean strangely enough. He looks and sounds just like in the first season.

    - Don´t shake the fucking camera. That´s not animation.

    - The music composer sucks so far.

Also, despite thinking that j-music really doesn´t go with GsG and just feels out of place, i liked the ending song.

OK, thanks fro clearing this. Since I never read manga (will probably read it after this season if finished) I have nothing to compare anime to so I didn't no they "had" to become more free.

Isn't it too early to say it? We have only seen one episode, how can we say if the director is good or not?

I have too agree, although they do not disgust me as much as they do you. Choice of the voice actors is hardly the best and of course worser then in first season. Jean and company look way too young, a lot younger then in the first season. Which is at least strange.

Just watched first episode. Big hearty meh so far. Luckily I have vols 4-6 on me so I'll be reading those in no time. Animation was...choppy at best, few scenes were nicely animated but the total time of nice animation was like less than a minute, out of 24ish.

Art is...well, I'm on the fence about the art, it looks more refined but is let down by the animation. Honestly I don't see the need to great art if the animation sucks. Comparing both together I say they drew the girls better in this season, but the handlers looked better last season. The overall look is lighter and brighter than before, the mood has changed but I'm sure that's to do with the story more than the art.

I don't really care about the voices, since they work and I can't remember how the handlers sounded before, but the girls sound find to me.

music sucks, I'm terribly disappointed with that. OP and ED have lost the power and emotion that season 1 had. Not to mention the animation for both of them suck ass. Ahhhhh! This was probably the biggest peeve I had, although mostly anything would have pissed me off, because the OP and ED from season 1 were perfect. I can't say anything else about the soundtrack, although I do hope they have the same style of music.

I agree with death about the dialogue, standard anime trash for the most part, the end was good though, except for when 'Etta went to Jose's room and was just "err, well, umm, that is..." God, that was typical, especially for their "strengthened relationship" lol

But I'll give it a chance, I'll watch this to the end due to lack of anything else good lol

Please do, Gunslinger Girl is easily one of the greatest manga around there if you want realistic drama and great character development.

Having said that, Henrietta is a little too "moe" so far, especially with those squeals.

Well, i´m not really saying that the director sucks (Ok maybe i am) but considering that this was mostly a filler episode with plenty of action i can compare to the filler episodes of the first and it´s pretty obvious who did the best work.
I especially disliked that panel that appeared when Henrietta checked if the fleeing terrorists had guns. Kills the mood big time. That and the shaking camera. And the dialogue.

But apparently the Noir aspect of the old season and the whole atmosphere is back in the next episode, which stills gives me hope to really like the series.

I have too agree, although they do not disgust me as much as they do you. Choice of the voice actors is hardly the best and of course worser then in first season. Jean and company look way too young, a lot younger then in the first season. Which is at least strange.
They should trust me when i say this, both Hilshire and Jose are relatively old. Hilshire is in his mid-thirties and Jose probably in his early thirties. They both look and sound like they are fucking 18 years old. Which is especially retarded since Jean didn´t suffered this "beautification" treatment.

I liked both BGM and op&ed music.
The violin piece was nice but the music that came up when the action scene started was atrocious.

I agree with death about the dialogue, standard anime trash for the most part, the end was good though, except for when 'Etta went to Jose's room and was just "err, well, umm, that is..." God, that was typical, especially for their "strengthened relationship" lol
That part was the bottom of the well, that´s the problem with this season that´s most obvious, they are adjusting it for the popular audience, the generic moe style is bombing in japan so that will appeal to the majority. Classical music might also scare way the "moe" fan so it was removed. The pretty boy treatment that the Handlers suffered. Etc...

Gunslinger Girl season 1 strained away from pretty much every anime and manga stereoptype, this coupled with the huge quality of it all makes it one of the best animes ever made.

This second season, good or bad, it´s probably going to be just another anime.

    Second episode is funnsabbed.

Classical music is back, and so is the athmosphere, even if it is only partly.

Already did, up to Pinocchio Ark.

Yes, by the impresssion that the first episode gave, the new director seems inferior to the previous one. However, I liked the way the second episode, which follows manga, was made, the athmosphere seemed to be moving back into right direction, established in the first season. The voice of young Pinocchio was shitty though.

I hope you are wrong here, it would be too much of a waste to turn GG to your typical loli-gun-shooting-running series. Time will show.

Hmmm ep 2 was nice (briefed it in fast forward).
I Didnt read manga but actualy the 1st scene with pinochio and the girl made me think woah usually they just let them go ^^ and he just went mindless there.
I watched GG long time ago and dont remember main cast name except henrieta but it seems that since from ep 2 they again use clasical music, it will be worth it (even though guns sounds like water toys {based on ep 1 } ).
