Default GetBackers Act 1 discussion thread (No Spoilers)

With this I post my first discussion thread for the GetBackers manga. If I get enough support for this idea. I will make more discussion threads for each act, divided in two if they are in more then one volume, up until Act 6 where I will start doing it for individual chapters until caught up with V-project's translations. I will then procede to do them as they come out. So let me know what you by voting in the poll and replying here.

Anyways, onto the discussion. I think this does a good job of setting up the main premise of the story as well as the two main characters powers. Ginji can generate electricity, and Ban can cause peole to see minute long illusions. The "fight" with the Yakuza thugs was well done also. Together they run a recovery service. Despite being really good at what they do, they have no luck with money and are always broke. It is agood premise and it only gets better from here.Discuss and enjoy, and remember, No spoilers for those who are not up to date with the Tokyopop (I will not spoil either) or V-Project translations.

I dont care much for this thread really, but I've got one question. Is the manga still ongoing? I thought it ended at 23 volumes, but I saw volume 36 here in japan. It was a beautiful sight.

It's an old (with old, i mean started some time back) series and as far as i can recall, it has 39, not 24 or 36 volumes. Cant recall the anime length - which was quite alright imo, just that the graphics werent impressive. And yes, it's finished, early this year i think.

You mean the manga finished right? Tha anime is quite old and sucky compared to the manga, even though the jokes in the anime are adoreable. I think it was 46 episodes... Better get my hands on some of the manga and hope they have furigana

^You said the anime was bad compared to the manga, yet, you haven't read the manga? The anime was a good adaptation until the first Mugenjou arc, after that, it was all fillers but, it was still good in my opinion. The anime also was left open-ended; so, they can keep up with it, since they never developed much about Babylon City. They screwed up with Kurusu, though.

I do not understand how is it that Get Backers is not more popular. In my opinion, it is one of the best shounens you can find right now.

I have read about eleven volumes of the manga. The only manga I've bought to read because of insufficient scanlations, but my money runs out all the damn time. I am studying japanese though so as soon as I've gone up a level or two I'll start buying the tankubons in japanese (which is like a forth of the price of tokyopop's releases, plus that their covers hasn't been horribly raped)
