this is kind of a weird question but does anyone know the name of the first symbol to appear during the opening credits of the anime? the one with all the eyes. ive been looking around but i cant find its name or its meaning. the anime being eva if anyone missed that.
It's the symbol of Seele, you know, the guys that talk through big black rectangles floating in the air?
naww i finally found a picture of it. but it didn't say anything about it and i still don't know what its called. deadmoose.com/~rlpittsjr/Pics/Symbol_of_Lucifer_Wallpaper.jpg
it says its a symbol of lucifer but ive looked through a couple of books and some websites and i cant find it. sorry i cant post links yet.

I don't know that specific symbol, but iconographically, it's a cherub, a member of one of the orders of angels. I'm more used to seeing them with eight or ten wings, instead of twelve, but the eyes on the wings are a dead giveaway. Wikipedia has more info, though not useful images.
Today is always the most enjoyable day. Just ask Yotsuba.
That was already explained in Eva Tomo no Kai (You can download it here. It's under the "scans" section.) The NGE Commentary Project made a translation of the whole analysis of the opening sequence (The 84 cuts, and their associated frame numbers.)
You can't find its name simply because that image is a "Gainax original". The wallpaper that you linked says "Symbol of Lucifer" because of one the above interpretations. However, that it's only pure speculation since all the oficial sources describe it simply as "a graphical figure that appears in the red universe that is like a cherub."
awesome thanks for the help. and honestly i dont know why i didnt think of that i had seen that depictions of a cherub before but this one went over my head.
