Default jigoku shoujo & Holy Land

Hmm, I'm been watching hell girl, on and off on tv. The series confuses me. Although the animation looks great, but the storyline and plot is pretty crappy. Can anyone enlighten me?

Holy Land looks pretty promising though, its kinda like a sport genre manga, but it involves street-fighting, boxing, judo etc.

Jigoku Shoujo is pretty good, admittedly the show is very formulaeic. You know what's basically going to happen minus a few twists here and there. It's pretty painful to watch up until episode...8 or 13 (the one with the reporter). After that there's a thinly veiled continuous storyline that involves the reporter and his daughter. By the end it's actually really good storywise, it managed to hook me once things started continuing. And Enma Ai's voice is so sexy.

The second season is much like the first, only they make things more interesting. Looking at different views and perspectives, it also focuses more on the investigation of the grudge, not the grudge itself (like the 1st series). And it goes into the past of all Enma Ai's helpers. However, the continuing storyline in the second season doesn't happen till episode 20 (or 19) even though there's an introduction to it on episode 15 or so. The continuing storyline in this one is insane, showing how unreasonable and foolish people can be if you give them the means to get rid of someone.

All in all, it's not a groundbreaking show, the animation and art are incredibly nice, but the storyline fails to keep people watching until it finally gets interesting. It's worth watching I think, it's a good show but the execution was a let down. Keep watching it, you might be impressed and love or get bored and hate it, either way it deserves a chance.

She was clean, never did anything wrong. It was supposed to be an eye opener for the daughter who thought recklessly sending people to hell wasn't such a bad idea. But when people have a strong grudge for no apparent reason innocent people suffer and that's why they had to stop people from using the hotline to hell.

I thought that was a good episode.

As Elcura said, Jigoku Shoujo is an excellent series and one of my favorites. It truly explores the very nature of vengeance and its terrible repercussions. (I wouldn't call this series crappy by any means.)

Ah, and episode 22 is one of my favorites. It shows like no other how irrational, unreasonable and demented humans can be.

Yeah, definitely a "wtf?!" moment there. Second season really takes the cake on how fucked up people can be. Mob mentality and all.

Also, Kikuri was fucking creepy as well.

The fact that a series doesn't have a lot of story arcs doesn't make an anime bad, less plotless. Look, if you don't like the last episodes of the first season you won't like the rest of series so I recommend you to look for something else, something full of "storyline" as you said (Naruto and Bleach would be perfect for you) since series like these are definitely not for you.

Oh yeah. It's kind of sad that with that final it's very difficult (if not impossible) that they continue the series. That's really sad for me since I really enjoyed it (but I suppose that all the good things come to an end).

Holyland is win. I love the series.

(Personal bias due to working on scanlating the series)

I gotta say with every chapter of Holyland, it only leads me wanting more. I just wish there was more pages to fights. Yes I want even more pages! The art isn't great but it's not what matters for this.
