    Default The Rebuild of Evangelion

I really don't know why we don't seem to have a big Evangelion forum here in Series Chat.
I mean, it's an ongoing manga, they're coming out with three new movies, and there might be a live-action. You have freaking Detective Conan and a bunch of other things, but no Neon Genesis Evangelion.
It's totally justifiable, and it's one of the greatest and most popular series ever.

Anyway, I'm sure you've heard of the four new Evangelion films called The Rebuild of Evangelion, The first three telling a new story directed by the guy who did FLCL and a lot of other cool dudes, and the last one being a new ending.
The trailer for the first one, which comes out in September in Japan, already hit Japanese theaters, and some people camera-phoned it.
It's hard to see the quality like this, but I'm hyped.

That "trailer" was rediculus. Aside from the text at the end it might just as well have been some rather crappy AMV, as it was just old fottage.

You're whining about the trailer, but if you'd actually seen it in theaters, you would've realized it's not just "old footage".
The footage is supposed to be unbelievably well animated and really cool, and Rebuild will have lots of great divergences from Evangelion.
You just can't tell because it's a CAMERA PHONED YOUTUBE CLIP. That's why it may seem lame or old footage. You guys do realize that, right? I mean, anyone with a little sense wouldn't go, "WOW THIS LOOKS DUMB".
It's not just old footage, 'tards. It's actually supposed to be amazing. I can't wait to see what's done with it, especially in the masterful hands of Kazuya Tsurumaki.

why can't they make another great anime instead of recycling an ancient one while changing its scenario ? (if not to milk the cow...)

I understand that a lot of people were disappointed by the original endings, but they should stop imagining a new one every couple of years and let this anime stay in peace :P

Because it was one of the greatest animes of all time and there are a lot of fans who just want more.
It's not about the ending or being disappointed about the original scenario. It's just about great minds in anime coming together and sort of honoring one of the greatest animes of all time by re-imagining it and giving it new life again.

they had already reanimated it. platinumed it, created tons of doujins of it (btw I love the retake. yes I'm contradicting myself), Created games with alternate stories, new characters etc.

    Isn't this overdoing it?

I wish this new movies will prove me wrong though

No, not really...Reanimation and Platinum don't count for shit, those are just the same thing with better animation or bonuses, they're just "Special Edition".

And most of the other stuff you say, like doujins, aren't even official anything anyway...None of the stuff you mention really counts.

We're talking Evangelion story-wise, there's only the TV series, manga, and End of Evangelion. Rebuild is going to be amazing.

i don't think the original manga series is hosted at stoptazmo (which is a requirement for a subforum). plus, subforums get created by the amount of traffic and/or people petitioning for the subforum.

anyway, i thought retake was a great alternate ending myself.. the original ending was a great disappointment - i don't care if there was oodles amount of symbolism in it: if it's hardly indecipherable, it's just a huge unartistic mess.

will withhold judgement on the alternate ending till i see it
