Default Taking life one day at a time

Looking at my favorite manga series, many are slice-of-life stories. Yotsuba&! is as plotlessly slicy as you can get and still have (hysterically funny) stories. There's Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou, Ai-Ren, and ARIA/AQUA for science fiction; Fruits Basket (at least in the early chapters) for fantasy; Living Game, Emma, and Bara no Tameni for romance/drama. I like Adachi so much not for the sports, which I don't really like in themselves, but for how they are extensions of the characters' lives away from the field/pool/field. (I'd add Azumanga Daioh, but yonkoma strips are more slice-of-gags than slice-of-life.) Despite the differences in genre, these all have that feeling of the quotidian.

And I want more. ("More manga, Mr. Scott!" "But Kiptain, the printers canna take much mora this!" "I don't care -- I need ... more! manga!") Pimp me, please.
Today is always the most enjoyable day. Just ask Yotsuba.

many people liked Genshiken - slice-of-life about an anime/manga/culture? club. i thought it was alright... i've also watched quite a bit of Aria, and some of Emma.

Slice of life isn't really my thing, but Yotsuba is an exception for me

Well, you know Hotman, of course.

Frankly speaking, I can't think of many more than the list of manga you already posted. Maybe Mahoraba, if you haven't read that yet? It gives the same sort of feeling to me as Maison Ikkoku, so it might be close. Open Sesame, as well, has turned pretty slice-of-life-ish.

Try Eatman. I think it can be classified as a sci-fi action/adventure slice-of-life. An collection of stories around the same character, Bolt Crank, the world's greatest explorer/adventurer-for-hire... who has the ability to eat anything and reform it from his arm. Every chapter is a new story/adventure. There was ONE long arc, and characters often reappear in subsequent adventures, but it's pretty much a "day in the life of the World's Greatest Explorer" series.

Genshiken sounds promising. And Eatman sounds exactly like my cuppa strong black coffee.

I like Hotman except when it swerves from drama into melodrama. Which it does increasingly more as the series goes on. It's like the mangaka needs a designated scriptor....

Yotsuba is everyone's exception. Yay volume 4's publication this week in English.

Echo: That's because Ichigo Mashimaro skirts pretty close to being pedo.

    Default Not-well-known series

For seinen, I'm currently crazy on Urishibara Yuki's Mushishi. Each chap features the place Ginko is in and the mushi causing trouble there. It's a beautiful, slice-of-lifeish fantasy series--definitely for seasoned manga readers. Try the first volume. Hope someone picks up scanlating this again soon.

You might also want to try the urbanny What a Wonderful World by Asano Inio. If I remember the chaps well, I liked stories 2 and 3 especially.

For shoujo, I highly recommend Miura Noriko's Kirai. It isn't exactly slice-of-life in terms of genre but it gives a similar feel. The drawings might turn you off at first but the fresh approach to shoujo romance (especially if you're not into mush) really glued me despite the bad scans. Again, try the first volume. Hope dragonvoice skips rescanlating chapter 2 and heads off straight to chapter 13.

Let me know if any of these turned out to your liking. Enjoy!

PS: One Pound Gospel by the same mangaka of Ranma 1/2 isn't slice-of-life as well but gives the same feel as any series by Mitsuru Adachi.
But once you conquer the world, then comes the hard part.
What kind of world would you create?
