the manga's pretty bad, imo. the translated novels by Baka Tsuki is more worth the time =)

i really liked the series. i know a lot of people say it's over-rated, but i thought it had a fairly interesting premise, fairly good character development, and kyon is an amusing narrator. the anime also had good animation and music.

Haruhi's great! the plot and story was jumping around but you'll understand it better if you watch everything until the end (yes even the preview).

    my favorite character is Yuki.

I even have some funny doujins of it. my favorite doujin is the cat-Yuki. XD

the only thing that disappointed me is the lack of info:

    SPOLIERS: Highlight to read.
They never showed what happened 3 years ago. The only thing that they showed was the theories of each factions. Closest one is probably Koizumi's theory: that the world was created by Haruhi 3 years ago.

Yes, the translated novels are much more interesting, since they continue the story (though, of course, I appreciate KyoAni's anime series too). And a lot of details that the anime couldn't cover are explained in greater depth in the novels (including some things about your spoiler, Vincent...). I can't wait for the new sliders/alternate-SOSdan story arc to be translated!

Really? I thought they're very fun to be with, if they're beatiful actually.

I've only read the 1st volume of the translated novel though and watched all the anime episodes...

It's so nice if you have a lot of background with the story if you'll be watching the anime. You'll understand why Haruhi didn't opted to tie Mikuru's hair to a ponytail during the baseball match. Also a bulk of paranormal activities during the movie of Mikuru..

I'm looking forward to read all the rest of the 9 books, but I'm not feeling very well this week.. T__T

yah, i thought the novels were an excellent way of finding out more details than the anime could've shown (in addition to the ones listed, it was interesting to see why Haruhi asked Kyon whether she's met him before)

the action/music scenes are well worth watching the anime though. anywhere yuki unleashes her alien powers, it's a feast of CG =) and i really liked the "God Knows" concert

I was going to read the manga, but I heard it got cancelled. I'm thinking of watching the anime, but I might read the novel beforehand.
