Default Romeo x Juliet anime = Best romance action/adventure this season

    Summary
Romeo x Juliet is a retelling of Shakespeare's classic tale of star-crossed lovers, but set in the medieval fantasy city of Neo Verona, which boasts arching skyscrapers and flying pegasi. Long ago, the Grand Duke Montague murdered the Capulet family, who were the rightful rulers of Neo Verona, and gained control of the city. The last surviving Capulet - Juliet, a two-year-old toddler at the time - was whisked away to safety by loyal servants after witnessing the death of her father.

Fourteen years later, we see the effects of Montague rule on the city, as the nobles take advantage of the poor commoners in the name of hunting down Capulet survivors. A young girl disguises herself as a masked Zorro-like swordsman called the Red Whirlwind and roams the streets of Neo Verona, helping the poor and fighting the oppressors. Romeo, the son of Grand Duke Montague, and his friend Benvolio are living bored, somewhat frustrated lives as the sons of noblemen. And in the meantime, Juliet's sixteenth birthday draws close...

To be honest, I was a bit surprised. I didn't anticipate that it would be such a good story, but GONZO has completely wowed me. It's a completely new take on Shakespeare's tale... anime-style. Romeo x Juliet is one of those animes that will become a classic, I think. Right from the opening song all the way to the end, it's both beautiful and action-packed. In terms of storytelling and art style, it seems most similar to Scrapped Princess. The soaring vocals of the opening song (which has the same melody as "You Raise Me Up") gives you a very good idea of what feeling this anime is going for. Only two episodes have been subbed so far, and the third one just came out in Japan, but I'm looking forward to it so much!

Anyone else share an opinion on this?

Yea, it's really one of the many amazing titles I've been engrossed by this season. Besides this series, Tengen Toppa-Gurren Lagann, Seirei no Moribito, Heroic Age, and Moonlight Mile are all amazing series. But yeah, back on topic, there's a lotta small things that make it nice, the little sweet romantic skirmishes that they have had so far, Shakespeare himself making a cameo appearance, and an over-arching epic story. Though we know how the story's going to end, let's just hope this rendition/portrayal will keep living up to my expectations.

sounds interesting, and i havent watched a new anime since Afro Samurai... ill check it out...

I'd like to die with the songs I love stuck in my head. I hope to make the most of these hollow bones we become.
I raise a toast to the the souls that sang all along. I've been gathering friends to just to make some sounds,
before the ship goes down, I've been making amends by making the rounds before the whole world ends

Further lies! Guerren Lagann is the real best show this season.

Also Gonzo fails hard. They don't even spell William Shakespeare's name correctly.

Dizzy, I'm with you. I swallowed the hook with the trailer, and it caught hold in the first episode. Cracktastic. 'Speciallies with all the other Shakespeare stuff going on. And all the inversions of various details in the storyline. (Yes, Princess Tutu is my favorite anime because of the meta, why do you ask?)

You left out that Juliet lives her daily life pretending to be a boy, and "he" then cross-dresses as a girl to go to the Montague ball. "He" also kicks ass with a sword as the Red Whirlwind. What's not to love? Aside from the magic hair, that is.

Well, Touka Gettan is probably the worst show this season followed by Shining Tears. I just want other people to be confused by the stupidity of the missing plot.

Anyway, Gurren Lagann is probably second only to Darker than Black I guess. But only because from the first episode, I'm guessing G Gundam's Domon Kasshu knock off, Kamina dies, probably protecting Simon or something.

Kamina is 50 times cooler than Domon Kasshu would ever be btw.

The problem with Romeo X Juliet is not its animation. It is its plot, Juliet is the hero(ine) of the show?? Doesn't that make it a shoujo show. Plus Romeo and Juliette have switched places, Originally Romeo was the one who went to the party hosted by Juliet's family. Plus the whole gender bender thing.... I dont know, i think this is a disappointing show.
