    Default Mass overload of Yaoi

So, I'm a pretty avid manga reader. Everyday, I go on to mangaupdates and check the releases section to check what's new. And I swear to god, 50-60% of the releases everyday are Shounen-Ai or Yaoi releases. Now, I'm not a homophobe, those genres just aren't my thing. It's kinda annoying when I want to check out a title I've never heard about possibly to pick up a new series to read, click it then see it say Shounen-Ai or Yaoi. It's quite aggravating to say the least. I'm sure I'm not the only one here that has had a similiar daily experience.

Well, yaoi is licensed a lot less than other genres -- so scanlators are filling the official void. Also, yaoi tend to be very short -- one-shots or single-volume -- which means many more titles for the same number of chapters compared to long-running series.

I know what you mean, though. I usually avoid the problem, though, by rarely trying something until at least a couple chapters are out -- because I don't like waiting for months for the second part, when the scanlators are slow. Show me dependabilty, and I'll take a risk.

Oh, I don't try reading them. I just look through releases, click a title and read the genres.

For me its enough to look at cover and say if its yaoi or not ... not even need to look at manga genre.
I can only say one thing about massive popularity of yaoi ...
Waste of scanlation teams thats all ...

Personally I think we need more. Let's shoot for 80%!

    Aside from that...*cough*

BLU publishes a bunch of shonen-ai and yaoi titles...Viz and TokyoPop have published a few that are at least implied or near shonen-ai...they're out there, but the shonen series are more popular to license, I guess. Although my local comic book store, at least, has realized that manga is what the female population has started coming in for, so they keep their shoujo selection well-stocked (included yaoi/shonen-ai).

I've found yaoi/shonen-ai titles to come in better quality in some ways, too. The volumes are often larger, actually have cover flaps, and have soft covers.

In the end, as long as there's interest and a demand for it, the yaoi/shonen-ai scanlations and licenses will persist. Which is just fine by me. ^__^ I think pseudorandom may be right about the source of the volume, though.

I say we get rid of the whole lot of them.

    Also get rid of Yuri.

Hell get rid of everything. My little mind is too scarred as is.

i made the same observation the other day. I found it was very peculiar there were more yaoi releases than regular releases. Its even funnier how fast they get released. some dedication!!!

    Gah, I can't really stand Shounen-Ai and Yaoi, Shoujo-Ai isn't so bad...

I just like a normal relationship.. Thats all.. I also agree that Manga-updates are having a massive overload of Yaoi..

Well, you can't blame mangaupdates, since it's their job to report new scanlation releases. But it'd be cool if they had a built in feature to filter out certain genres from appearing on the new releases page.
