Shoujo with good art?
Sometimes a guy wants to read about sappy, impossible love of a 14 year and bishies appearing out of no where. However, the only time I can tolerate them is if they have good art. The majority of shoujo manga has shit in terms of art sense, style, or detailedness. The only shoujo mangas I can stand are those by Kayono, whose written Royal 17, B-men Kazoku, etc. The art in it is amazing, admittedly I also read her works cause they're so damn smutty. Anyways back to the topic are there any other shoujo out there with art as good/detailed as Kayono's?
...which isn't really a shoujo, but it has wonderful art. And no, this is not one of those MangaX-for-every-recommendation, it's a jousei and that's close enough~
I think Tanemura Arina (Fullmoon wo Sagashite, Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne, Shinshi Doumei Cross) has an amazing style, very detailed. Kaori Yuki (Angel Sanctuary, Fairy Cube, +others) is well-known for amazing art too, I believe.
...I don't know the artist of Divine Melody, and it's Chinese, but that has gorgeous art too.
There's CLAMP, but I'm sure you've come across some of their manga before - CCS, Tsubasa Chronicle, X/1999, and such. Very pretty.
...and finally, I must say that I love Saenagi Ryou's art, but you're not going to find any romance, smut, or pretty characters of either gender. XD Personal taste, but worth mentioning.
Hm, looking at the comments for NANA under mangaupdates it's supposed to be amazing. I'll probably pick that up. Also, is it a shoujo ai? Gotta set myself up to be prepared, cause a lot of shoujo ai manga come off lame and cheesy to give guy's a story to fawn about. They also have a tendency to give me a hand-to-forehead type reaction aka Kannazuki no Miko, which I thought was horrendous.

Mangaka whose art remind me of Kayono in style include recent works by Yazawa Ai (such as Nana), Obana Miho (such as Honey Bitter), Yoshizumi Wataru (such as Random Walk) -- the three of whom are friends, along with Mizusawa Megumi, whose art is still more of the classic younger shoujo style -- Mimori Ao (such as B.O.D.Y.), and Kamio Youko (such as Cat Street). All of them have varying degrees of bishies, and I liked the stories I mentioned.
I personally also like the art of Tanemura Arina (especially in Fullmoon wo Sagashite), Kaori Yuki (Angel Sanctuary), and Mori Kaoro (Emma). The latter, though, has no bishies.
I feel your pain, Shoujo art especially tends to all look the same.
All of Yazawa Ai's manga's are pretty and distinctive (Nana and Paradise Kiss are the ones I recommend)
Kaori Yuki has an awesome super detailed Gothic style and is pretty much my favorite artist (I'd recommend Ludwig Kakumei which is pretty much really dark humor fairy tale retellings, Count Kain (aka God Child) and then Angel Sanctuary in that order.)
Saki Hiwatari art is distinctive from other Shoujo but its been a while so I don't remember is that well. It doesn't matter though cause Please Save My Earth is one of best Shoujo manga's I've ever read. Psychic powers, Past Lives, Love, and Tragedy thats about totally awesome.
Only other real distinctive art for Shoujo which I've remembered is of course Clamp. The rest all starts to look the exact same. Good luck finding stuff you like.
n/t cause I can't figure out how to delete.
