Crocodile? He was nothing like a well-developed unsympathetic villain. A well-developed unsympathetic villain would be someone like Dio Brando. Villains that try to gain emotional appeal from their "hardcore evilness" have to actually succeed in doing evil, Crocodile didn't. If Crocodile had killed Vivi then maybe you could consider him a hardcore evil villain.
Uryuu freaky, pale and geeky,
how do your powers grow?
"With gloves and scars and silver stars

yes, swords that I shoot from a bow."
RK got my attention 'till the end, I read it all... One piece only got my attention until vol 12 and I don't really want to read any more, prolly I will but not soon
Does villian's past matters that much? Any of you know the past of George Bush? Sadam? Bin Laden (or wuteva)? Hitler? Napolean (or how ever u spll it)? Alex the Great? You care about a frictional characters' pass yet not some real life villians? ><'
My pt is, villian's pass sometimes just doesn't matter, if it doesn't matter in real life, why does it matter in a novel?
IMO (as an OP fan), OP is good, but not very good. Unlike Naruto, Bleach, etc, something new (new moves, new characters, new islands, new villians) appears all the time, keeping the manga fresh, but at the same time, there seemed to be something BIG happening else where and the StrawHats are not aware of it (WhiteBeard, BlackBeard, 5 Elder Stars, Shanks, 7 Gods of Sea, etc). If OP does a indeath pass of each of them (5 Elder Star, Sengoku, each of the Gods of Sea, BlackBeard and his crew, WhiteBeard, Ace, Shanks and his crew, the other 2 Empires, Smoker, Aojoki - spelling? - ... the list continues), that's gonna take more than 1000 chapters to finish.
One Piece is fine but alot lighter. My main problem with it is the villains as well.
You can talk about how undeveloped they are all you like - I think it's true too. But my main problem with them is that they're all comical. They will have a huge fight against this "bad" guy, when the whole thing just plays out like a joke. You know nothing's gonna happen, and you just have to wait until they beat him so we can move on.
So far, the only two outside that have been Arlong and Crocodile (I've only just finished the Crocodile bit ). And to be honest, I didn't really care about Crocodile. I thought the Arlong Park saga was cool, but the rest of OP so far has just been a time-killer more than anything else.
well although I don't think the OP villains are great villains with incredible amounts of development, I do think they have sufficient development and background information and what I really enjoy is the overall story anyway, besides OP has an actual restaurant in the shape of going merry, as much as I also like rk, rk can't beat that
since when do we need to know about the villains? the whole series is about the good guys, looking at through the good guys point of view and mostly focus on them, of course the development and all the others crap are mostly focus on them. Oda have no time to focus on the bad guys because one peice is not about them. Simple as that if u want to know about the bad guys then go pick up a pen and paper and start writing down requests for Oda.
That is pretty stupid, do you even know the first thing about story telling? Even Dr. Seuss develops villains.... By your logic Luffy should just run around punching cardboard cutouts, and every once in a while the cutouts get harder to break, ohh wait.... he is.

That's illogical and unrealistic as the heroes are not supposed to know that much, and we, as readers, are not supposed to know much more.
You know i like OPs villains ... you all may want to know the life story behind someone to get into it but it makes no sense. Lucchi was a great villain as was Buggy and Spandam and Crocodile... all you need is a bit of a backstory to see where theyre coming from which oda makes splendidly (See Robins Past) and thats it. Think about it, if youre about to fight someone you just met like Buggy or Lucchi or heard about second hand like Eneru and Crocodile how much are you gonna learn about them before you feel they should be defeated... >.>
I like to die with the songs I love stuck in my head. I hope to make the most of these hollow bones we become.
I raise a toast to the the souls that sang all along. I've been gathering friends to just to make some sounds,
before the ship goes down, I've been making amends by making the rounds before the whole world ends

Neither George Bush is a villain. Their is valid criticism to be leveled against our current president, but he's no villain. I'm a liberal, for the record.
