Default Any *short* shounen adventure series complete under 10 volumes?

I was just struck by the fact that most shounen adventure series (of the sort "Boy goes out into big world to become the best ______, helped by various sidekicks and allies he meets along the way") are extremely long-running series going into double-digit volumes.

Does anyone know of a short series of the same type, but completed within 10 volumes or less? Or is that just something that is impossible to get?

EDIT: So far, I've read the following of the genre: Naruto, Bleach, Rave Master, One Piece, Shaman King, Flame of Recca, Bowling King, Detective Conan, Busou Renkin, MAR, all of Adachi's works... and probably one or two more which I can't remember at the moment. Don't bother mentioning those. I'm looking for something in a similar vein, but much shorter.

Butsu Zone was short, but fairly entertaining. (By "short" I mean about three volumes.) Aside from that... if I can think of anything, I'll mention it~

You've got Gun Blaze West by Nobuhiro Watsuki (kenshin, Busou Renkin). Just two volumes, don't know if all has been scanlated yet, but it's worth a read.

Hareluya II Boy is also an alternative. I know it doesn't really belong in this thread since it's 33 volumes and it isn't done scanlated yet, but the story arcs are generally much shorter than average shonen and more stand-alone. You can always stop reading since it isn't story driven. It is the funniest shonen I've ever read (no panty jokes, thank you god). Read the first chapter at least

Lessee -- King of Thorns is complete in 6 volumes. It's a postapocalyptic adventure rather than boy becomes best adventure, though.

Yamato Gensouki is closer to the genre, and is complete at 2 volumes -- and ends just as the show's really just getting on the road, as if the publisher dropped the series.

Yeah, I know. Yamato Gensouki was actually the series that started me wondering whether it was even possible to create a shounen series under 10 volumes. Too bad the publisher dropped it.

King of Thorns and Hareluya II Boy aren't exactly what I'm looking for, I guess. I'm focusing specifically on the "boy becomes best" kind of adventure. Just because I'm curious about whether such a thing exists, not really because I want to read more of the type. (After reading all of the series listed above, I'm quite sick of shounen adventure stories, really... this is just to satisfy intellectual curiosity.) Gun Blaze West looks like it fits the bill, though. Completed at 4 volumes, but only scanlated halfway. And Butsu Zone might be okay too, although it doesn't seem to be exactly the right sort.

Interestingly enough, when I did a background check on Hareluya II Boy, I came across another series called Bremen, which also looks similar to what I'm searching for. Has anyone read it?

Try Togari...I'm rather fond of it. The ending is jarring, but I like it.

Generally any shonen adventure series that doesn't break 10 volumes is technically a "failure," since by design they are supposed to be an indefinite source of income for the magazine until the author can no longer maintain popularity or his/her sanity. If it's a story they can tell in less than 10 volumes, it's probably not actually an adventure series.

I read a chapter or two when ST started hosting it, but I remember nothing aside from my conclusion, "Not my thing." Which category includes shounen boy-becomes-best things.

Zombie powder was about 3 (or 4) volumes and im not sure on number of volumes but buso renkin has mid 80's amount of chapters

Ha :P Sorry about Hareluya then. Was just thinking shonen and not boy-tries-to-become-the-best. I'll check out Bremen and Togari since you boys mentioned it. I'll still tell you all to read hareluya though, by principle.
