I know some people want to support the artist and stuff but who would buy the books? I mean you can read it online bigger, freeer and clearer. I guess there are some omake and stuff in there but those are like a couple pages.

Some people like to hold what they read in their hands. Or they would like to take the books with them when they go out. Otherwise online books would've caught on a long time ago.

I know I would buy many of the manga I'm currently reading/have read in the past, with the most prominent being Monster, Battle Royale, Gantz, Beck, Basilisk, Saikano, GTO, and most recently Elfen Lied. But due to the fact that manga's hella expensive and the violence/gore/mature subject matter depicted in many of them. I'd hat to have my five-year-old sister go into my room and find a volume of Battle Royale and see Mitsuko-san copulating with a dead body.

Now as for the "new" Megatokyo, it isn't necessarily "bad". It's just that a) Largo-san's personality needs a minor makeover; b) The storyline seems to be going in a random direction with too many loose ends; and c) The story pace is waaaaaay to slow for a webcomic. 'Cuz I mean, waiting two weeks just to see if the protagonists made up or not isn't kewl at all.

If MT was a manga, it'd probably be better than it is now.
That's why I always buy the "Oxford World Classics" version of the book. It has many footnotes, that make the book come alive. Also, P&P was good, I loved the misunderstanding between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, and how it shows his true character unfold, but really, "Persuasion" is much better.

I bought the books. Makes it much clearer, less eyestrain, and more linear. Also, I bought them just a few days ago because some kind of seed had gotten in my left eye and scratched my cornea and(before I went to the doctor after not being able to drive or stand sunlight), it helped because it did not give off light, as a monitor does(which hurt). Also, after I got the eyepatch(will come off in two days, yay!), it was just easier to read in print form than on a monitor.

Actually, the books are much higher quality drawings, better resolution images. When they lost the originals, and had to use some images from online in the book, you can really tell the difference.

I agree that the "new" direction Megatokyo's going in isn't really bad, it's just not carried out very well. There's way too many loose ends and plot holes. I don't even really see any problems with the characters.

And Pride & Prejudice was horrible, I understood what was going on but the motives of the characters didn't make any sense at all. I'm aware that's supposed to be depicting another time and place, but still none of the characters are really likable, just tolerable, and there isn't really any true source of conflict (misunderstandings are meant to be resolved in stories, I won't count those).

You are clearly a male. No female would betray the rest of her gender by criticizing such a wonderful book as Pride and Prejudice.

Or Colin Firth, for that matter.

Someday I WILL be a real girl! The fairy aliens promised me!

Seriously though, lots of people in my class disliked the book, our opinion was united across all demographic boundaries.

    *on topic*

Try applegeeks, it has some crossovers with megatokyo and the artist is an alumni from my university. Incidentally it’s also going in a similar direction as megatokyo recently, though it’s a bit early to judge whether this is a good or bad thing.

The problem with Largo is that he has become outdated. When he first started with the 1337 speak, it was the internet haha of the month, year even. But since Fred paced the story slowly (it's been like... a few months since the beginning of the comic) and things go day by day, it wouldn't make any sense for Largo to suddenly change overnight (story-wise) when people have been reading for years and have outgrown 73h 1337 5p34|<2.

So he's trapped, and people go BOOOooOOooo (no pun intended).

    I still read though.

All boys? I've met very few girls who don't like Pride and Prejudice... well, wait, you said at school? No one likes books when they read them in school! =P

I still like Largo's l337 speak. But then, I listen to music from four, five years ago. Things don't become outdated to me.

Well if we are talking about books we read at school now, I still start foaming at the mouth at the though of To kill a mocking bird (wasn't really the book's fault, it was the teacher that made the book unbearable).

As for that, I hate Largo's 1337 speak and right now I'm listening to crowded house (from 1986). The problem is not that its out dated per se, rather its the fact that its a cheap gimick that Fred is using that wrongly portrays gamers as performance obsessed sociopaths with poor grammar. It seems Fred didn't get the memo about 1337 5p34k being just a crap joke.
