Megatokyo is a terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible story. It makes me embarrassed for the entire Western Hemisphere.

A member here, rikem, had the megatokyo link as a sig. It intrigued me, so I started reading the webcomic/manga. Of course, I had already heard of it(who hasn't), but hadn't read it, because I had read some slanderous things about the artist(which I now think are way out of proportion), and the breakup between him and the other co-creator. I decided to give it a shot.
I like it. I find it has a well paced, interesting "slice of life" and "romance" plot, with some funny stuff thrown in as well. What do y'all think of it?
Ever since the break-up, Fred's been steering the comic into a soppy romantic mess, which is highly unsuitable for webcomics, as they tend to come out twice or thrice a week. It's oft said in the forums that by the time MegaTokyo time reaches next week, Fred will already have died of old age.

All things aside, though, it's still a decent webcomic. My "strategy" is to not read it for a month, then read everything I missed in one go. Then it would be kinda like reading Berserk =P

As for the before vs. the now, I would have to say I prefer the comic before, when it still had the gamer/anime jokes. It seems like Fred is just going wherever his fickle imagination leads him currently, with no idea where his characters will end up (case in point: Seraphim).

But anywho, it does possess one running joke. When Piro was in a shoujo bookstore reading up shoujo manga, he reads one about a Japanese schoolgirl falling in love with her teacher, but it doesn't work out in the end and they both die. Quite akin to Piro and Yuki's relationship, no?

    Miho-channnnnnnn ftw~!!

Another thing that I'm disappointed at, is Largo talking all this 1337 speak and talking about high performance computers and zombies and stuff. He used to be this cool funny slightly dimwitted casual gamer and now hes like a boring, sociopathic version of Jyuu with crap grammar.

The Largo at the beginning, you could probably see at a gaming convention. The Largo now, you could probably see in a mental institute =P

I liked the old Largo better. But then the new one hooks up with a seiyuu =/ Well, at least he doesn't have a banst!ck like Jyuu.

I started reading megatokyo early on (back when they had only around... 50-ish strips?). It was really amusing, and had a good mix of plotline and random humour.

I remember one of the earlier strips was about how Piro and Largo would argue about storyline, and many heavy objects would be thrown around, and went on to show what would happen if a heavy object hit Piro (in which case, MT would become a zombie-hunting comic) or if a heavy object hit Largo (in which case, MT would become a dating sim). And from what we have now from MT, that strip was pretty accurate.

Not that Largo's been hit by a heavy object, but he did end up separating from MT, and now MT is just way too... dating sim-ish.

Dang it. I actually like it, like the change. I feel like a queer now.

Course, I also like Jane Austen and the Bronte sisters' books. And killing things and eating them. And knives and fire. Wierd combination.

It's okay, if it got a better pace for the romance genre it would be a bit better. I was talking to my friend about how it was romance but he was a little behind me and he didn't buy it. 8-Bit Theatre rocks!

Ewwwwww Jane Austen. We had to do P&P for APEngLit this year and I swear, 99% of the class never knew what the heck was going on.

Now as for the "new" Megatokyo, it isn't necessarily "bad". It's just that a) Largo-san's personality needs a minor makeover; b) The storyline seems to be going in a random direction with too many loose ends; and c) The story pace is waaaaaay to slow for a webcomic. 'Cuz I mean, waiting two weeks just to see if the protagonists made up or not isn't kewl at all.

If MT was a manga, it'd probably be better than it is now.

Ive read megatokyo for years too and think its an avove average webcomic. i dont remeber what it used to be like , that was so long ago now and the storys arent the greatest. its still an entertaing read to follow the latest plot.

none shall compare to Morning Glory , the best web comic. may it rest in peace :sob: (i won't link to it, it has just about everything bad you could think)
