I agree with vekou I don't think the analogical order of the 1st season was an abuse of the series, just their method of trying something different to stand out.

Besides I doubt they'd believe the series would be as popular as it is today or after season 1 ended.

They were probably thinking that it'd be a good niche anime that a small fanatical group would like and there would be a near zero chance of making a 2nd season... so they did something different.

I agree totally--I didn't mean to say they were abusing the series itself, just that they were messing with the viewers. I guess I meant "abuse" in that they didn't mind that some viewers wouldn't understand, and that their expectations wouldn't be met. That's not always a bad thing but it's risky. By ordering Season 1 that way, they no doubt alienated some people who didn't quite have the patience to try making sense of it.

On the other hand, for those who stuck with the series, trying to make sense of it generated a buzz. Fans, people already familiar with the story, had more context. To them the ordering might be more interesting as you and vekou suggested, even playful.

I don't remember the novels being confusing at all. I started reading the novels after watching the first or second episode, which I think made it even more enjoyable.

*Anyways, back on topic: If you liked Season 1, watch Season 2 (but skip some of Endless 8 if you get bored--you don't miss anything big). It fills in some nice parts from the novels and the production quality is at least as good if not a bit better than Season 1. I did prefer the Season 1 OP music though! The Season 2 OP music sounds strained, like she's trying too hard.

yeah, the reordering of the season 1, really was risky.. i nearly skipped the whole franchise if i didn't force myself to watch the 2nd episode. the 1st episode was too boring and made uninitiated viewers skip the series. that episode really didn't made any sense at all unless you're familiar with the novel.

but due to a huge amount of peer pressure, the people who skipped the whole anime just because of the lame 1st episode end up getting curious about the buzz the anime has created.

anyway, in comparison with the 2nd season and the 1st season, the quality really improved. it just feels a little, well short. personally, i wasn't satisfied with the amount of content that the second season gave.

i think it was a strategic plan (that failed) by kadokawa to extend the E8 series so they can produce a more profitable disappearance arc movie. as we all know, they can earn a lot by showing the franchise on the big screen than showing it on TV, in which an illegal copy of the current episode can be freely downloaded the next day.

Season 1 OP was better for me too. I'm not that fond of Hirano's songs but It kinda grew into me.

You wouldn't be able to enjoy the first episode of S1 if you didn't know what was going on. The whole "B Movie"-thing would bored everyone if they just watch it as is but if you know that it was meant to be like that and the good parts are the small details that shouldn't have been there then you'll atleast enjoy it as a normal episode.

Second season felt short as it was a ... well a short series (14 eps) to begin with. Then the whole E8 took more than half of what few available episodes there is.

Though They could have worked around it and extended the series to a 24/26 eps to make a normal length season. Adding Dissappearance and Snowy Mountain would be more than enough to make that happen.

But as vekou said, they probably did this to make dissappearance a Movie as they saw that everyone's attention on the second season was focus on this part of the story and they can use it for more $. u_u

i didn't notice it before, but it seems that the DVD of E8 episode didn't sell that bad. wow, they're now praising Kadokawa for good marketing strategy!
