Overall opinions about the first season of anime

Since there (most likely) is going to be the next season soon lets discuss the first one here - like what did you like and what did not, what should have been done in some different way and so on. Voice your complaints and praises here.

I should say i started watching it after seeing so many people praising it almopst insamely, as if it was some masterpiece or something. So as i always tend to do in such cases I approached it with increased expectations, which usually leads to anime being less fun then i hoped it to be. This time.... I guess it partly happened too, although i did like it a lot. The unique philosophy people were talking about was not there, or rather the pieces i have found were not that originall or wise as I hoped them to be. Nevertheless I liked how author took care of it, showing life correcting main heroine in an awesome way ;P

Note:When I refer to episodes, I refer to them in the Haruhi Order.
I found it amazing in some places, and under done in others. The first six episodes helped build the characters up, and the 6th episode was extremely well done.

The later episodes were great ( Remote Island Snydrome and the Festival Episodes were some of my favorites), but I found the final episode of the first season felt good in some points, but stretched out too much in others. This includes the long waiting periods between anything happening (Kyon going to the electric store =_=, Yuki reading her books), which I really hated.

Overall, the ideas behind the characters boded well with me, mainly because I remember a time when I used to love just going around (with my friends) and looking for signs of things like monsters and aliens. It brought back a lot of childhood memories which I cherished. I enjoyed how well they fleshed out the characters were, and how their backstories all linked together.

Overall, I'd recommend it to people, but I wouldn't tell them its extravagant. If they want that experience, they should read the beautifully crafted light novels.

Really? I heard a lot of complaints about it, but did really like it myself. The slwo pace of it was relly well used, creating teh calm and kinda sleepy athmosphere, which ended in Kyon falling asleep in teh club room and Haruhi covering him with blanket (or whatever). Such athmosphere is what i liked True Tears anime for. Although yeah, it does contradict the pace of almost whole anime.. which is not really bad ;P

I did say it has some good points. I hated the crawl at certain parts, but the ending was great.

But the whole showing of Kyon going to the electronic store was too slow, at least until he got there (which I enjoyed because of the heater being the "advance" xD).

Yuki reading was pretty slow. I enjoyed the voice actors in the background and stuff, but it did feel like a waste of good screen time (Nagato is great but watching someone reading a book is NOT quality entertainment xD).

The part where Kyon fell asleep was the turning point, I knew something was going to happen, when he woke up, there was that warm feeling haha. Also Haruhi changing Miruku's clothes was a good point in the episode xD.

My opinion is that the first season was great. The best thing, I believe, was that the first episode aired was the home-movie-thing. I laughed a lot during it and it felt like a huge "fuck off" to the viewer. A very nice feeling.

And my favorite scene? I stated it before, but the remote island syndrome pheonix wright impersonations. And second? The scene you critizised above, the nagato-is-reading-d'uh scene. It's one of the few scenes that has made me laugh out loud alone. There are bad points to be pointed out though. I didn't like the episode with the computer game that much. As for other things I don't quite remember right now.

Computer game scene was pretty good, certainly not great though.

@MG123: The slowness of that all created peacfulness, being the preparation for the sleep-wake up scene. It would not have felt as great without the slow pace of previous scenes.

You guys may already know but

Episode 14 is a semi-filler episode, it's an episode that did not adapt anything from the novels but the author did take part in creating the episode, appearantly his name is in the credits for this episode. This is from memory of reading another MSH forums a long time ago... so I won't mind if you correct me if I'm wrong about that fact.

Although I wonder who's the 2nd Jacket that was on Kyon when he was sleeping, the 1st one obviously being Haruhi's...

I heard about this online just after the first episode came out. Decide to watch. Never looked back. I loved the first season. I didn't think that it dragged, or wasted time. I'm pretty cheerful and hopeful about the next season. Um, that's about it.

This feels like an introduction at an AA meeting. You know, my name is Stuyvesant and I'm a haruhiaholic.
