Nah... apparently he's the same old Kurt. I bet there were some sort of extenuating circumstances for when he got Eishun to teach him Zan Ken Ni no Tachi and the general Shinmeiryuu. Even in the past, we see him being the same extreme fuckbag as he is with Negi. Like... Arika already got saved, and that's all that matters to everyone else, but here he is wanting to "restore her honor" and whatever, despite everyone spreading the word themselves that it wasn't really her fault that their world went to shit.
