Thread: kage bunshin vs. clones

what's the difference between these two? i mean they seem pretty similar to me except that cloning seems easier (because kaede can easily surpass kotaro's kage bunshin limit) but the more you make the less density each one has whereas kage bunshin are real bodies. i really don't understand the difference between the two. does anyone here know?

Kaede's just stronger than Kotarou. I don't think her clone limit is higher specifically because clones are "easier" to do.

On top of that, Kotarou likely only uses the kage bunshin because he already has somewhat of a knack for using shadow techniques (I'm pretty sure his dog summon things are taken from shadows, right, cus that's what I'm basing this on).

Btw, you mean kage bunshin just some kind of shadow techniques? and how about clones? What kind of technique is that?

About Kaede, did you mean since Kaede stronger than Kotaro, it doesn't matter what techniques is, she still overpower Kotaro? And because clones are 'easier' to do she only(?) use that???

i guess it could be classified as a shadow technique since all of kotaro's other moves like his dog summons but that would be going into a completely different discussion. so far i've realized that kotaro's kage bunshins kind of suck, usually they all get wiped out in a one powerful hit. clones however seems to be that the more you make the less dense they get and the less power they have but they can also take several hits. i wonder if you can combine both techniques and have a whole shitload of kotaros.

Well, it's just like Naruto.

On a page, Kotarou explained that clones (bunshins) [s]are just illusions. [/s](although it's never been explained in Negima how illusion works)

Kage bunshins are material partners that fight alongside you.
The "shadow" in the name has nothing to do with Kotarou's Inugami power.

Note:
Truth is, I never remember anyone using a clone. It's probably just too impractical, or it's harder to do than Kage Bunshin... 0_o
Fate has used a watery "illusion" image of himself, but that's different.

Fate's water "illusion" was capable of casting a barrier-breaking lance of stone. Kaede's clones are capable of using her ninja techniques (the barrier breakers, those giant fireball things). No idea about Kotarou's, but I haven't seen any overly magic-based techniques from him or anything to begin with.

Oh... and Kaede's clones (which clone = bunshin translation-wise btw) are an "Eastern mystery". God knows what that means.

@Big-B: I'm pretty damn sure that Kaede's stronger than Negi... not really sure about now because he's got the Magia Erebea in his arsenal. She kicked Kotarou's ass pretty handily (the argument can be made that he wasn't 100% because Kaede's a she, but still), and at the very least, you wouldn't learn things from people who are weaker than you (like how Kotarou is now able to do clones in the same fashion as Kaede).

lol.. I thought this thread was gonna be about Negi's clones all the way from the Eva arc VS Kage Bunshin...

but yeah.. I'd say the East wins on that one...

I've always thought that Kaede and Kotarou use the same ninja techniques. Just Kaede is better in it (it is her speciality, and she's older). And in Negima, it seems, one has control whether one's kage bunshin partners are exactly as powerful as the ninja, or they are lesser versions of him (that is described as density by those trying to tell them apart).

Fate probably operates through proxy bodies all the time, while his real body is hidden somewhere. Kind of like Albireo Imma (aka Colonel Sanders) did.

I doubt Fate even has a 'real' body. His little boast about not having need training (did someone just hand him power on a silver plate?) make me wonder if he is actually a construct whose AI can shift to replacement body units. I can only guess.
