I think that Aka-sensei would want us to take it at face value. I can't really see your argument being very stable since it's based on how Fate is still stonger than Negi. Why even show that panel if nothing happened? The other two times Negi hit him I would say that was more suprise with no damage. this time

NOW look at Fate's expression. He doesn't even react in time to defend against Negi's barrage of attacks over the next 3 or so pages.

Is this the face of a person who's suprised or taking zero damage?

The last page after Negi's attack throws that off. We haven't seen what Fate can really do, so why off him right now? That's why he looks so undamaged. Negi can't win this fight, even with his level ups.

I know he has info on Negi, but I think Fate could care less about what fighting style he learns. The fact that Negi caught him off guard with that elbow should say that Fate didn't know that Negi also learned that style and trained specifically with Ku Fei while learning how to fight against it.

1. errr... so heartless fang does that mean you agree that Fate wasn't really hurt? Doesn't really matter how strong my stand is as long as people can punch holes in them I'd be glad cause it'd show how active and democratic this forum is.
2. My sentiments exactly, it's just that my counterpart (the guy I was discussing with) said that Fate didn't know Negi had kungfu. As you said fate could careless and I agree with it. What I'm trying to say though was (I should've made it clearer) that Fate may have been caught off guard on Negi's kungfu level mixed with Erebea as he thought that erebea was only doping.

^ I was kinda torn on number one. But I guess the next few chaps should confirm whether damage was dealt or not. I wanted to show that the chances were higher than the others that fate got hurt, at least an itty bitty bit. Especially since we haven't even seen fate change facial expressions while/after being hit.
As for number two: yeah I agree with you.
